Is zoom-based combat outdated?
Is zoom-based combat outdated?
I'm losing track, who used to post this webm again?
I think i remember this was specifically made to piss off XV kun, but then it's also posted in FF7R threads or something?
Yes it is. We need to return to turn BASED combat asap for mainline FF games. Just think: I bought DQ11 simply because it is turn based. I did not buy FF13/15/7R because they are zoom based. SE could take more of my money by going back to the good stuff.
Yes bring back real FF combat, no more of this automated zoomer garbage
What are we talking about and when was something bad ever not bad or acceptable just because it wasn't "outdated" yet?
>We need to return to turn BASED combat
Good lord i'm already asleep.
When will you finally get cremated so we can stop hearing this shitty ass opinions already.
Retire already, jesus christ.
Come up with something new, no one buys this shit anymore.
Might as well post here. Are there any good auto-battlers out there? Where the programming part is the gameplay and you NEED to program and setup the NPCs effectively in order to win. Be it RPG, strategy or sports games, whatever genre.
Go home zoomer
>This webm again
Exaggerates the problem with FF XV's combat and the video that it's from is kind of shit desu. The enemy he's fighting is just a trash mob.
>B-b-but it's in the final dungeon
There can still be trash mobs in the final dungeon. Prior Final Fantasies and other RPGs have encounters in final dungeons that can be easily sped through.
I think the real problems with XV combat are: you can spam items with no consequence, phasing is too easy (you should have to time the button press to dodge-not just hold the button), the magic system can be easily abused (can use catalysts for chain casts that can rip apart enemies), and when they buffed the ring they made it waaaaayyy too OP. I really wish the game had a hard mode because having to constantly gimp yourself to have a challenge is lame.
Yes, its called chess

Dragon age origins
We need to step away from 4 fuccbois in a car and go back to 4 niggas in a row
Based
Literally all these retards need to do is make 2 attacks buttons, heavy and light, and make basic combos using those two buttons. Thats all it takes to make the combat not as fucking mind numbingly bland. Same applies to FF7R as well.
Based on wh... oh, carry on.
Why not just make FF into DMC while you're at it you dumb nigger
Because DMC is shit
So is nuFF.
They truly captured the magic of the old games by letting you win most combats by just spamming attack mindlessly over and over again.
If you're making an action game, at least put basic combos into it, that doesn't mean to make it DMC. Trials of Mana remake is an example of what I mean. There's basic combos there, nothing major or even that outstanding, its literally just different number of pressing Square ending with Triangle, but it at least its something.
Remake is not an ARPG and is more akin to Turnbased. This is facts
KH is that
i like both turn based and action game so it's a win-win for me
yes
I remember old turn based combat having mindless battles too. Like 90% of the fights are won by simply attacking until your HP is low, and then using a potion. And potions are dirt cheap, so as long as you're stocked up, you'll never worry about dying.
carnage heart exa
Zoomy calm down and go play your fortnite where there's always something going on to amuse your pea brain
in kenshi you can automate every single action and need to do so if you want to run your settlement efficiently
Strategic turn based, like in Divinity, Baldur's Gate 3, Pillars of Eternity, Vagrant Story, The Banner Saga and Final Fantasy Tactics is the best option for combat in RPGS
Trial and error isn't particularly better.
P5's rating is inexplicable, but so is VIR's, and XV's for that matter.
No Japan-originating RPG has been more than a 5/10 in thirty years, and DQ/FF/SMT certainly aren't the ones worth playing.
The video game market has standards lower than dinosaur bones.
I thought competition was supposed to be good? Despite the massive, exponential increase in games development, people constantly gravitate to arbitrary brand loyalty, regardless of quality or creativity.
Square and Atlus have never made a good game
>Strategic turn based
Actually based, most turn based JRPG's become mindless fast as fuck only offset by sudden difficulty spikes.
Realistically, what's the difference between Turn-Based and Strategy?
They're practically synonymous, since the Real-Time Strategy tag exists and Action-Strategy doesn't.
Both have games that are designed and balanced well, both have games that aren't.
Not sure a JRPG has ever had a difficulty spike, though. The solution is always to increase your level, and that's not difficult. This applies to a lot of RPGs, Japanese or otherwise.
The lack of a "ticking clock" or timer or potential consequences is what makes virtually every video game RPG nothing more than Adventure games but with shitty gameplay, and there's no excuse for it.
RPG has become the genre for developers who have no fucking clue how to design video games but want free money.
Every single critically acclaimed, revolutionary production in the genre's history is an embarrassment holding back the potential development of the genre in the medium, from FFVII to TW3.
Yes, especially for franchises that are typically turn based like FF. XV and VII Remake are both have absolutely trash combat.
Real action games are better than turned based though. But those are ACTION GAMES, not shitty JRPGs with shitty mashy Action combat.
