Discord is no more than a tool. A very useful one if you have friends to talk and play with, something that the average Zig Forumsetard doesn't. That, or most people here have an inexplicable need to enter public servers, which are the biggest cancer you can infflict upon yourself.

Mostly because discords are closed communities, i.e. you can only view each one if you have permission and they aren't indexed by search engines/archive bots.

Back in the days of IRC it was the same thing. Join a room with 100+ users and it's nothing but faggots fellating ops who issue bans at the slightest hint of wrongthink.

00s were the boom of IRC, at least were I lived. Hell, I only stopped in like 2015.

And IRC was no different. If you wanted to "get into" an MMO beyond mindless grinding you joined a guild and they had some IRC going, or god forbid, ingame group chat.

Easy and useful for talking to your friends and for really niche subjects with a small group of people.
For example I was in a discord dedicated to hotgluing figurines and then sharing images, eventually the server got too big and dipshits turned it into a chatroom with literal female landwhales bilking dudes into buying nudes and admin drama.
Just like most online interactions the more people smashed together into one place the worse it's gonna get.

I hate that it's easy to fatfinger the video call button in DMs when my phone is horizontal-- I used to habitually slide the member list out of compulsion, I click the button instead now after accidentally calling someone off of that.

Slack doesn't have voice though, unless fucking no one uses it.

If Slack implemented voice chat or Discord implemented any productivity features, they'd take Zoom's audience away, especially given recent security concerns.

I just hate all the embedded garbage that this UI style has going on. It detracts from the purpose of being a VOIP application. The memory footprint of TS3 right now is like absolutely nothing compared to what it would be in Discord, not to mention CPU usage from having all those fucking gifs and shit running in every channel. Waste.
