Rare discussion thread

People don't realize or refuse to acknowledge how good Rare has it right now
>Sea of Thieves is their most successful game ever
>playerbase has succeeded that of Halo and Gears "the most successful IP [Microsoft has] released in the generation"
>Killer Instinct did so well it convinced XGS to allow other developers to work on unused Rare IPs
>new AAA developer formed under XGS, the Initiative, is making a Perfect Dark reboot of all things
>Everwild was just announced, is Rare's first single player adventure game since Kameo
Yet Banjofags continue to screech doom and gloom about the studio because of Nuts & Bolts.

I'm worried about Battletoads, it is gonna be shit, right?

>playerbase has succeeded that of Halo and Gears "the most successful IP [Microsoft has] released in the generation"
It's on Gamepass. Of course more people would have played it than a game that costs $60.

The nostalgia for Rare's Nintendo games is just too strong for any of Rare's new stuff to replace the legacy of shit like DKC and Banjo for most people. The way people sperged out about K. Rool and Banjo & Kazooie being in Smash Bros. probably indicates that they'll never make any characters as beloved or iconic as long as they're making Xbox games, no matter how good those games maybe.

Literally the most liked tweet on Rare's Twitter account is the announcement of their boomer bear appearing in another company's crossover fighting game on a completely different system. It's pretty amazing or sad depending on how you look at it.

we can only hope the same will be done for the bear and the squirrel

it literally is

People are also not considering the MTX in the game which are probably being eaten the fuck up by whales.

nu killer instinct is soulless trash

I don't care I want Banjo Threeie

Reminder that Jontron was the reason N&B and Conker’s big reunion were so hated despite being decent enough games

i mean i bought a parrot and a cat for fucks sake

nu KI is an actual decent fighting game, old KI is garbage

Its obvious they shot themselves in the foot making Banjo.

for me both are garbage with shitty automatic combos but I still prefer old aesthetics and sound effects

New Banjo is entirely on Gregg. Microsoft has a weird "We need to ask the original development lead" and Gregg's always said someday he'll return when either he has an idea or hears an amazing pitch internally for it so Microsoft won't move without Gregg saying its OK for them. When Killer Instinct was being pitched Rare and Chris Tilston just told them "That was Nintendo Of America's Baby. Go ask Ken Lobb" (They didn't know Lobb was pushing the the project already and had written design docs for about 10 years ready to whip them out when there was a possibility it could come back. That KI documentary releasing soon is going to be amazing). Perfect Dark, probably just asked Duncan Botwood (Who's at Ubisoft these days)
Conker, Seavor said he'd do the voice again even after Project Spark but he'd want the game to be done in the same spirit as the original by a young dev team given a good budget and a digital only release so they could fully express their creativity. Then he'd give his personal thumbs up on it. MS probably could find the right indie/AA team for that more than Banjo. It's something Gears For Breakfast could probably do, even.

Rare is the truest example of when you add nu- to the beginning of a word.

Halo and Gears is in GP too.

I know someone who works for Rare, went to their house once. They don't flush the toilet I went in and saw a massive log, I think it was about 3 dumps worth.

They are a she as well

Game success isn't an indicator of a good game. Sea of Thieves has a 67 rating on metacritic.
Killer Instinct is a 2D fighting game, it's impossible to screw those up.
We haven't seen the consequences of the other news.

this is all new information to me, i had no idea that it was mainly up to the og creators
it'd be amazing if the elements from the cancelled conker sequel were brought back

based mumbo

Because that's from launch and the game has had massive improvements over the years with only a few of those reviewers going back to re review it in the last year and all have said it's one of the most enjoyable coop games you can play right now. IGN for example just revisited it last month and they gave it an 8/10.

>new AAA developer formed under XGS, the Initiative, is making a Perfect Dark reboot of all things
citation needed

8/10 from a mainstream site means it's average.

Name one game you're enjoying right now

You're such a massive faggot
>if it doesn't good reviews from onion consuming journo's then it's not a success!
>Gets a better review from onions consuming journo
>lol doesn't count
I bet you jerk off to god of onions and cream yourself at how it "moves" the genre

Just saying that 8/10 from IGN isn't exactly a glowing review. A game has to be outright shit to get less than 8/10.

SoT is unironically the best mp game I've ever played. There's no game that comes close to the fun and experiences I've had with my friends while becoming a pirate legend.
If I had to name my 3 best mp experiences they would be SoT, Mordhau and WoW.
I guess I'll have to revisit the game now that they've added so much stuff.
