Have any of you guys ever went to school for video game development? Where did you go and how was it?
>dur u can just learn everything online 4 free
Yeah but I'm a brainlet who needs directions and given tasks to learn anything

There's nothing dur about that, what's dur is attending a for-profit university to learn how to do shit youtube can tell you how to do. You have to have a drive if you want to learn a specific skill like that. My advice is go play GMod or Roblox or whatever games have easily modular engines and read up on tutorials on how to make gamemodes for them. That will give you a good starting point for even the dumbest of retards.
If I actually go to school or do classes it will help keep me focused. I just have an issue learning shit outside of given assignments, I find it a lot easier to learn when somebody tells me make something, rather than me having complete free range
Don't. Get a CS degree and do a minor in visual arts, or do a double major.
My friend went to DiGiPen 15 years ago. He learned a lot, but the main thing he got out of it was recommendations. He got hired by one of the major American development studios through the college.
If you just want to learn stuff, then you should just stick to online tutorials and practice. You go to college to get contacts and a degree. Once you get into whatever job, they don't give a flying fuck what classes you took. College is basically you saying "I can focus enough to take your orders."
If you have trouble teaching shit on your own game development will not work for you anyway, especially on the coding side of things. You need to be able to teach your self shit and be able to research shit on your own. If you struggle with this, look for another type of job.
The only thing these places are good for is making contacts.
but i want make video gmae
>Full Sail
THIS NIGGA ACTUALLY THINKS CONSIDERING FULL SAIL IS A GOOD IDEA
LOL
And I want to go to the moon. Neither of us is gonna make it.
Buttfucked a dude who went to Full Sail University. AMA.
This is the main reason to go to a video game college, Digipen students are pretty much guaranteed to actually get work, and many went on to make really famous games.
Just give yourself projects and work towards them or something. Use tutorials when you get stuck or somethign.
same here, man.
So you're admitting that you're a mindless drone with no drive, ambition or initiative that can't set and execute personal goals and act independently of authority. No one would want to hire you except McDonalds, shit for brains.
I just need guidance, bro.
unless you're a cute girl you're not going to get any.
Like a toddler, lmao.
:(
ignore them, dude. we're in the same boat. i can't learn SHIT by myself.
Join game jams and use that as guidance as something to work towards. Look up tutorials to get what you need
I would research very heavily the specific school you want to go to before going to a school for game dev, a lot of the programs are really shittily put together because the colleges know that it's a dream job art degree and people will buy without realizing.
Don't need a degree for game design , it should be intuitive
You people need to understand that developer jobs require you to be self motivated and independent. You will not make it if you need your hands held. You're not suited for the professional world, come back down to reality before you're up to your ears in debt and stuck at a minimum wage job.
grow up bitch
then don't become a developer, simple enough
The richfag from my high school went to Full Sail. He doesn’t even work in vidya anymore. Probably wasted $150,000 on his tuition
You'd have a point if not for rampant credentialism.
sometimes wish i had went to a big name art school like full sail, no better place to meet art hoes
I'm an actual software developer and a big part of the job is learning to drop your ego and asking for help instead of wasting 1-2 hours to figure out a niche, unique problem in your project or codebase when you can reach out and solve it with help in 15 minutes. I doubt any of you fucks are actual developers
I am a software dev. If you think paying tuition and spending years of your life to to do basic 101 hello world shit is "asking for help", you might be an imbecile.
Sounds more like you're a freshman at full sail. Have fun wasting daddys money.
>Yeah but I'm a brainlet who needs directions and given tasks to learn anything
Then you're not cut for game development either way. You need to think on your feet and come up with creative solutions to a shitload of problems in gamedev, even in the monkey positions (mostly because you'll be covering for lead incompetence).
If you can't self study then please don't even get in an IT position, go get a slave degree in any other field, mostly because you'll just be doomed to pathetic posts with shit unlivable third world pay or outright unemployment if you're unable to keep up with the field itself.
Slave positions are plentiful, why would you actively make your life more miserable by being disingenuous with yourself?
Naw, I work as full-stack developer that does projects for the federal government. You sound like some ignorant dipsht that everyone in your team talks shit behind your back. I can't imagine working with a self-centered retard like you on a agile team. Especially one that just puts people down from trying to improve themselves. And no, I don't even know what fucking full sail is
>webdev
Is a comsci degree worth it?
Everything I’ve read about Full Sail has been fascinating. I really want to talk to someone who went there to just to hear what it was like.
>pajeet thinks he is a grown up developer
You're misunderstanding the situation here. No shit in the working world you stop and ask someone for help on a topic that they have experience with and they drop you the information so you can continue working. But it's pretty obvious by how OP even types he's not the sort of person who can get to the level of proficiency required to understand higher level topics that necessitate cooperation.
You're a retard lol.
>And no, I don't even know what fucking full sail is
I mean, the OP literally mentions the words "school for video games" with a big picture that has "FULL SAIL" on it.
You sound kinda mentally challeneged
>webdev
Best job to great treated like a king and have job security while getting paid top dosh. Suck my glorious six figured dick retard
damn shame you can't npm install --save programming skills, huh
if you are going to be paying to learn how to develop a videogame for Christ's sake don't be a "game design" major. You need to get into CS, even specializing in something like Graphical Design will save you from being a Digital Burger flipper with huge debt
Don't listen to them dude. No one will fucking hire you if you don't have at least an associates. The people you're replying to are most likely jobless retards.
Full sail is a scam don't go there. Read up online, it's shit
