I honestly feel like Nintendo's first party offerings have been going down the shitter since 2007. Only one I substantially enjoyed was Splatoon and even then the way the online is structured shits me. There's just zero ambition to anything they do anymore. Just cheap out on hardware and cheap out on their own software and flood the eshop with overpriced bottom of the barrel mobile ports that you can't filter through and charging for shitty online just like everyone else.

Tbh you buy a Nintendo console just to play Nintendo exclusives and nothing else. Each franchise or new Nintendo IP got progressively better on the switch over time on consoles, or at least is good enough to stand with some of the best of the series.

Except pokemon, pokemon is utter trash after BW and was mediocre until then.

I'll give you that shrines are easy to do and the master sword is a pain to get. But Zelda was always a mid franchise where each game has it's own mono-thematic area where you get the new object and use it to go trough the dungeon and that's it until the final one.

Not OP but I never complained that Zelda was too linear. In fact, I prefer linearity in my games. I hate the open world trend. That said, I didn't hate BOTW. I was disappointed by the lack of dungeons and the flat difficulty curve, and I absolutely hated things like degrading weapons and the cooking system, but all in all I thought it was pretty okay.

Plenty of things in the industry are open to debate but now and again something appears that deserves the nigh on universal praise. If you can’t start your posts with “in my opinion” or “I think” then you’re just ignorant of reality. BotW has its issues - nothing is perfect - but as a creative exercise it’s incredible and the VAST majority are in agreement. There’s a point when positive critical and player feedback outweighs the opposite to such a degree where to argue that its mass delusion is borderline childish
