There has been no real reason to buy consoles since last gen, maybe Nintendo consoles if you really like the exclusives.

Back when the PS4 came out I told myself maybe I should just build a PC because the I could play Street Fighter 5 and the only thing I'd be missing out on is Guilty Gear. Shortly later Guilty Gear came out on PC. Now every game I wanted to play is out on PC. I just bought a PC and I'm never buying a console again unless it's Nintendo.

I skipped this gen completely. Just kept updating my PC whenever i deemed necessary. Couldn't be happier.
This is what I am going to do as well, however even the current switch library isn't that appealing so I'll wait until the next version of the switch is out so I can homebrrw it.
