Somewhat, I grew up in part of the UK in a time where gaming was seen as socially unacceptable like watching porn.

At my school no one played video games, at best some played Fifa but 99% of kids were about playing physical football.

I fucking despise modern society where people socially promote either gaming, anime or being a homosexual in public. The 90s were better.

You can actually tell who actually likes video games and who is a consoomer bangwagoner. I've met many who claim to be "le true gamer" and all they do is buy the newest products and plastic trash, they are incapable of enjoying a game that came out years ago. I had a consoomer a few days ago telling me Resident Evil 4 is shit because it's a 15 year old game.

I always thought I wanted it as a kid, but now I see it for the Monkey's Paw it was. By the time I was in my late teens it already felt like people who'd never been part of the culture were appropriating it, the PS2 and XBox especially felt marketed directly to the kind of people I wasn't, but it was only downhill from there.

This. My brother and I both have severe anxiety disorders, he's on prescription meds and it prevents him from doing so much (couldn't become a cop, his dream job) and he's required to talk to a therapist every month and have a shit ton of tests done just to keep getting his cocktail of pills.
Being older, I managed to get out of my parents house before they tried to push the same thing on me. Smoke legalized recreational weed and get the same affects with none of the bullshit. Cheaper too.

I don't care for the popular nintendo games or the switch gimmick in general, so Id say I know the feel pretty well.
I couldn't give 2 shits about tranimal crossing or the xenoblade port or shitty online p2p smash. I just wanted botw 2, prime 4, and persona 5 S(witch). Im left in the cold as far as m hopes go.
sometimes I feel like I creep into the "video games just aren't good anymore" camp, but mostly in regards to triple a's. the only games ive given a shit about recently are indie games like cross code.

This. Normies only buy the latest console and games to be hip and trendy for a month or so. They never stick with any game for a long time. When I get asked what my favorite game is, I just say, "I don't play video games" because it's easier than saying that I enjoy playing through 90s RPGs and the game I play most is a FPS from 2007.

There isn't any, but there are many where you can purchase stuff one time and continue to be part of the culture. Basically any outdoorsy thing is like this unless you're associating with people who feel the need to "have this year's colors"

Me too pretty much. Gamers back then didn't use to be the all nerdy clothes, consoomers that have that bazinga vibe about them, you just were a gamer and that's it. It became stupid once it became trendy.

I'm still a bit of a nerd and a gamer, but i don't keep exposing it like an idiot, and it's just one aspect of my life, like also loving movies, books, drawing and shit.

They aren't if you enjoyed how they were 15+ years ago. It doesn't look like we'll ever get back to a golden age mostly due to the "new nerds".
I still play a lot of video games, but it's all old stuff. I've got a PS2, a GameCube and a PC that hasn't been upgraded in 9 years and I can't see any reason to buy the latest toys because new games don't interest me.
