Weird fucked up cult
Lack of sun gets on you eventually.
Constantly stoned on white claudia which explains why dumb slow thinkers like Henry and James visit the town. The opening segment of Silent Hill 2 is one town's collective weed smoke covering up a forest, lake and cemetery.
The town made him stupid
So are there PC versions for SH3 and SH4? Are they worth playing or is it just downhill after SH2?
I don't understand.
Lisa is perfect and she lives in Silent Hill. I love her :)
There are but they're tricky to find, I just emulated the PS2 versions. 3 is great and 4 is alright, has a good premise but messy execution

This is so fucking good.
Yes. As other user said they're tricky to find to purchase, hint hint
Will need a bit of patching/mod installation like the SH2 PC port does to bring them up to par with the console versions/make them better. I remember Silent Hill 3 being quite easy to patch, just one widescreen mod I think which conveniently fixes all the other issues with the game also and you're good to go ((from memory))
There is a power that was there before people settled the area. Its pretty interesting to learn about the history of Silent Hill, like that time every settler just disappeared.
SH2 is downhill
It's a sad scene. The conversations with Lisa in that game, even if they confuse the player or make the player question if they're even real, act as some nice downtime between the scares and tension and I found myself getting attached to her because of it. Then you find out her backstory with the drugs and having to care for Alessa, pretty tragic and sad. One of my favourite SH characters and very overlooked/underrated imo. It's nice that they pay tribute to her in the 3rd game
SH3 is still great, and I find Heather has the most personality out of all characters and the writers did a great job of shining it through in her environmental text. You can make it look pretty damn good on PC.
SH4 is mostly ok. PC version has some fuckery with it where the fix doesn't actually make it widescreen or increase the resolution
All of the original three Silent Hill games are pretty much equal but if I had to rank them
SH1 > SH3 > SH2
Highly recommend 3, if you've already played 1 and 2 then you might as well round the trilogy out. Haven't played 4 yet myself but I think I will when I get some free time this year.
Also try to avoid reading any Wikipedia or whatever synopses for the story of the game. A lot of them spoil a big twist in literally the first 2 sentences lmao.
yas
silent hill is hell
They are gentiles.
Based and agreed
2's still got the most artistic merit in an academic setting, but 1 and 3 are better games overall
I’ve actually never played a silent hill game and I want to pick it up. Which ones should I try looking at first and which ones should I avoid?
Yeah absolutely, 2's story is fucking impeccable, better than a lot of films even. And the attention to detail in every aspect of the game, everything relating to the themes or having a purpose in the story is awesome.
But 1 I find is the most addicting game of the three and scared me the most, has my favourite soundtrack of the trilogy and the level design is soooooo good. Don't think there's a bad level in that game IMO.
3 is great because it stressed me out with how low on resources I get towards the end, felt vulnerable even though it was way more action packed than the first 2. Would say 3 has the best monster design of the trilogy (closer in particular is a fantastic design) and the sound design is also great (those realistic banging sounds that make you take off your headphones for a sec just to make sure lol). Drags at points and there's bits of levels I don't like so it's not as perfect as 1 but still very enjoyable and replayable.
They each have their own merits and focus on different areas, so I think it's up to player preference in determining their ranking of the series. 1 is very horror and level design focused, 2 is more occupied with telling a story and putting the player in the shoes of the protagonist, 3 is a healthy blend of the previous games and introduces more action and inventory management that's sort of reminiscent of Resident Evil. Probably one of the best video game trilogies out there, there's something different for everybody but it's consistent enough that it somebody whose favourite is SH2 can still fully enjoy SH1 and might have trouble choosing between the two.
Release order, SH1 > 2 > 3 > 4. 4 is generally considered the cutoff point for the great-tier games but you can go beyond if you get curious. Origins and Shattered Memories also have their own little cult followings.
Or you could start with 2, and then go back and play 1 and then 3. 2 is a lot easier than the other games and maybe more digestible if you don't like PS1 graphics, so it'll introduce you to the series and give you a good idea of how the games play.
Whatever you do, you must play 1 before 3.
Just do release order for the original 3, 4 if you really want to. Avoid Homecoming, Downpour, and Book of Memories but I'm pretty sure that's like PSP only or some shit.
Someone's got the image for how to get SH 1-4 running on PC
Devil worshippers would that to a town, user
>Shattered Memories
isn't that the one where you basically wander around until you find a ghost and then QTE away from the ghosts every time
that one sucked ass I even liked homecoming better
the place was a beacon of spiritual energy even during the days of the native American people that lived there.
Alessa, mostly
It has its fans. I think people were mostly enamoured with the choose your own adventure type mechanic where your conversations with Kauffman would determine how the game would scare the player.
Fair enough, I don't think I ever got far enough to see any of that "tailored horror".
Any Silent Hill bros looking forward to The Medium?
Made by Layers of Fear/Observer devs so I'm cautious because it might just be another artsy fartsy Amnesia wannabe non-game but who knows, maybe they'll redeem themselves? It's got fixed camera angles and Eurogamer describes it as a Survival Horror (even though devs say Psychological Horror, maybe just to lure in Reddit?) so maybe it could be good.
If nothing else the soundtrack will be kino with Yamaoka on board.
No for reasons you stated. Yamaoka is just to fool people into thinking "Silent Hill".
Probably the drugs. That's all I can think of.
It wasn't only that. Just staring too much at alcohol or sexual posters ended up changing your game slightly and giving you different endings.
I didn't like the horror in Layers of Fear at all. It was just
>turn around
>SOMETHING CHANGED IN THE ENVIRONMENT, SO SPOOKY
or
>turn around
>JUMP SCARE, SO SPOOKY
It's just not scary.
>Made by Layers of Fear/Observer devs
No. Literally none of their games were fun, or even games. They were more like railroaded haunted house rides, and pretty underwhelming ones at that. The Observer had a cool setting and premise though.
These devs are the sort of people who clearly want to make movies or write stories instead of developing games. Dime a dozen in the indie circles.
