I started playing Operation Babel but this shit is so fucking boring I'm having trouble motivating myself to finish.
At some point I just started mashing through all the cutscenes to get back to the gameplay faster since it's at least somewhat entertaining, but now that kind of lost its spark too.

Colorful settings and flashy gameplay

Navigating comfy, well designed towns and hearing people's stories and then helping them. Needless to say, I love Dragon Quest.

What's the best DQ to play?

Used to be their attempts at making out-there settings and storylines, playable parties involving all sorts of fun/whacky/unique characters and systems trying to shine out as unique without going full trainwreck against a wall for uniqueness' sake.

Lately, nothing really. They are just fad of the month anime trope ridden shovelware 99% of the time. Shit like Xeno series going from relatively grounded setting with fleshed out characters to UGUUUU CATGIRLS TITTY MILKERS WAIFU GACHA SUGOI is the best and prime example of this entire downhill road to mediocrity.

just started playing DQXI as my first dragon quest and it's unreal how comfy it is. so nice to grab a cup of coffee in the morning and dick around in the towns for a few hours

The battle systems.

>a joke on a mecha fight equals throwing the entire writting team out of the window and replacing it with slice of life commentary and tired old copy and paste interactions from every title existing in the past decade

This is a based post.

Oh you just hate anime then whatever

If that is your definition of anime, then boy do I hate it.

My favorites are VIII and XI
Either one is perfect as a starting point if you've never played anything in the series.

I love RPGs but western RPGs are always the same medieval, grim dark settings with the same basic DND classes.

So i like to mix it up, with colorful and lighthearted settings of JRPGs, the Battlesystems are generally vastly different to WJRPG so that's always fun to play around as well.

And obviously for the waifus...

simplicity. any gender or age group can easily beat most jrpg's on hard, things are very straightforward. they don't have autistic shit like rpg's do with with a ton of stauts effects and shooting an oil barrel so it contaminates the river mutating the fish into wizards who cast +7 frost armor on your party member

The characters and their relationships with each other. I feel like everything in a good JRPG is in service to that which is why I did 100% runs on Persona 4, Tales of the Abyss, and .hack//G.U.

I wanted to have Llewellyn in my party because I liked his tragic story and archers are cool but goddamn, he was so weak. Guess that's why he got fragged in the first place huh

You're in for a ride m8, enjoy.
The cast in XI is great, one of the few RPGs where I liked everyone on my team.

yeah i really like everyone so far, just got to Sylvando. ive seen some people complain about him but i think he's cool. not just a gag character it seems

I have no idea why but as a kid when I first laid eyes upon the .hack games I thought it looked so cool and would be a series I'd really like. Honestly as a computer nerd the title alone is that did it for me. I tried Infection a couple months ago and while the premise of being in a game was cool, hoo boy the graphics were really bad (even on an emulator bumped up to 4k).

>too lazy to set up my PS2
>just got PCSX2 working on my computer
TIME FOR TALES OF THE ABYSS

Post your JRPG waifus, if you would.
Also I need the source on pic related. Nice design posted last thread but image search gave me nothing.

Engaging combat

It's amazing the amount of seething XB2 causes people. Xeno has always been a weeb as hell series, it just became very overt in the latest one.

That is Leia from Tales of Xillia.

Primm is the cutest.

Thank you kindly, user

Long journeys through engrossing fantasy worlds. Larger-than-life settings and people, fun creatures and concepts like magic. Fun turn-based combat. Great soundtracks. Party members that you begin to think of as your friends.
It's like a whole genre based around simulating going on a cross-country trip with your buddies, if you lived in a magical fantasy world.

i'm about to start Final Fantasy 6, which version is the best?

GBA version with sound patch. PC version is probably also alright with fan patches.

Yeah, the first series of .hack games didn't age that great.
They honestly look like late PS1 titles and considering that the G.U. series also launched on the PS2, the disparity only gets worse.
The story is still great tho and they really lean in to the fact that they are playing an MMO complete with all the tropes and archetypes that you would find in a late 90s, early 2000s of that genre.
Maybe you should try the G.U. series instead? It got a remaster on PC in 2017 and the combat is more action oriented compared to the original's menu juggling.

No they don't.

>tri-Ace fag
You're already accustomed to eating shit so you should like modern stuff just fine.

Does this emulate well? I regret selling my pee u

Seeing a variety of environments, seeing the characters slowly progress in strength, over the top stories and bosses, comfy settings. All kinds of stuff.

Not that guy but Valkyrie Profile is excellent, what the fuck are you on about?
