Nah, just play the original Strange Journey with the chad character art

I would recommend 4 or Digital Devil Saga. I tried the original Strange Journey as my first SMT game back in the day and couldn't get into it. Still a damn fine game looking back now though.

I don't see much of a difference

I recommend playing IV or Devil Survivor first.

Just know that it's more of a dungeon crawler than a traditional rpg.
Redux has QoL improvements that makes it an ok entry point for beginners. Nocturne is another good entry point. 4 maybe but while it's overall the easiest game the beginning is bizarrely brutal even by smt standards and can put some newcomers off

No, play the original

Yes, SJ is the best game in the series

What's the difference? Is it only the art?

What's the difference between the DS and 3DS versions of Devil Survivor?

Also I looked up 2 and it's not a real sequel to 1, right? Can I start with that? The characters in Devil Survivor 2 look more interesting to me. What's the difference between the DS and 3DS versions?

Play 4 Apocalypse. It has the best combat and it’ll help you get used to the series. But if you want to start with Strange Journey definitely go for Redux.

>Whole cast get character art and voice acting
>Giant extra super dungeon
>Tons of QoL improvements

There is no reason to play the original. The only thing it has over the new one is the character design for the main characters used to look better, which is a minor perk compared to having the entire cast get portraits and ultimately you're just looking at demons the whole game who look the same between versions

Apocalypse's MC looks like an edgy butch lesbian

Go chronological order, faggot. SMT I.

Nocturne is a lot of fun. The setting, atmosphere and music is great.

The art design for the humans changed, but in the original only the main characters had designs, in Redux everyone has unique designs. Redux also has a new super dungeon that spans the entire game and has a new final boss st the end of it with alternate versions of all the original game's endings, although I'd recommend leaving it to NG+

Redux also has a bunch more demons to collect.

yeah you'll be fine

3ds has more content for both desu games.

The size of the dungeons isn't the hard part. The hard part is that there's a one-way door, teleporter, or pit trap every five feet that forces you to start over if you happen to pick the wrong direction.

OP here, oh shit I didn't realise it was one of those, I do like Etrian Odyssey but I literally just finished Nexus and was looking for a more traditional JRPG to try out

Can someone redpill me on Persona 4 Golden or Persona 5 Royal?

Holy shit, is that what all of it looks like? I just got a couple days.

>Chronological
>Not Megami Tensei 1
Try again.

Unironically start with Devil Survivor.

He's chad as fuck. That's Demifiend

SJR is an excellent starting point since it's SJ with some neat bells n whistles but I highly recommend ignoring everything that's related to the girl in the dumb red jacket including the dungeon she sends you to for your first playthrough, she's meant for people who have already beaten the original story

That's wrong though

Can't be as bad as the teleport area before Shinjuku in EO1, right?

Both 3DS versions of Devil Survivor has voice acting and more history content. 1 has an extra chapter for certain routes and 2 has whole new campaign that takes place after the events of the main game.
Also Devil Survivor 2 is not connected to the first one so you can play 2 first if you want.

>Megami Tensei 1
Not a SMT game.

Play 3.
Nintendo megaten games are heavily casualised for their babby audience.

If you already played Etrian, SJ is just a braindead waterdown version of them. P4G and P5R are not games, just visual novels

You can clearly see two of those one-way hell areas in that image.

>Can someone redpill me on Persona 4 Golden or Persona 5 Royal?
Visual novel with rpg elements on the side and it features a simplified version of press turn from the mainline games.
