I agree that they're pretty lazy and usually a 50/50 chance of being good, but it's also true that they can drum up fans for the series and create a push for sequels or similar styled games.
Shadow Hearts will currently never get a new game for example, but a remaster is easy to do and could potentially spark old flames or new ones.
