I hope so but im really not seeing it. I'm sure retarded execs are looking at this game which could have potentially made fuckzillions and brought about a fuckton of actually high decent 40k games and saying "well it failed so that means there was no interest in it, we couldnt possibly have done anything wrong"

they need to do Dawn of War HD, and if it's successful start making DLC like AoE2

40k vidya is in a really odd position right now.
Seems like warhammer fantasy is doing far, far better while 40k has been delegated to shovelware limbo status. I really doubt we will be getting another major game like Dawn of War anytime soon, all we can hope for is more diamonds in the rough such as Mechanicus.

They have to know about that dude rolling in money off of those short clips so maybe that will get them to look at the series again

Every time I reinstall that game and play it, I'm always amazed by the quality of graphics it still has. I don't think an HD version of it would do very much.

DoW3 killed, cremated and scattered the ashes of the series. It was mind bogglingly bad. It didn't take the subject matter or the game itself seriously.
>Why is that Space Marine in Tactical Dreadnought armour leaping forward 30 feet and doing a double backflip?
>BECAUSE IT'S FUCKING EPIC AND FUN, NERD.

I want Genestealer Cult Simulator.

>scales from tactical rpg directly controlling a lone Genestealer that becomes the Patriarch, up to a 4x style strategy game where you are indirectly managing how the cult spreads across multiple planets and systems while trying to avoid detection by the Imperium until the day of ascension

why the fuck did they think trying to copy the MOBA formula would do anything other than piss off fans of the series

If you want 40k games try this, I just finished my first playthrough and it was great. It does get a bit too easy near the end but the difficulty settings are super customizable so im sure that on my next playthrough i'll be able to find something that fits

just off the top of my head DE and SoB could use new sound effects, particle effects, and building animations, the current ones are crap

Is Inquisitor worth picking up?

Not unless you've played every other ARPG out there

This. Mechanicus is genuinely good. Crank the difficulty and have fun killing necrons.

kino

Dawn of war remastered soul storm with fixes to the shit show that i was to make it more like dark crusade would be pure kino

Where did it all go so horribly wrong 40kbros? It seems like just yesterday fantasycucks were begging for our table scraps, now the tides have completely turned on us.

fantasy battles became irrelevant in the tabletop so GW gave game devs more freedom to work with that ip

is the DLC worth picking up?

>We are your end alien...
>"If you mean the end of me pointy stick, I'm right dree wit ya"
Orks with the banter lol

it's dead, imo

Sometimes I wonder if its because GW refuses to let anything be made that even slightly competes with tabletop. I'd love to see a wargame style warhammer game as well as a supreme commander style but it might be too close to their precious figurines to be allowed. Plus, if they made a digital version I highly doubt anyone, myself included, would pay for individual sets of units. I want to pay once and have everything at my disposal, or include 4 of the factions and sell the rest as DLC at the most.

Well, Mechanicus not only sold well but was critically acclaimed. But overall you're right. The problem with 40K is that it got hit with the double whammy of Space Hulk Deathwing being absolute shit and DoW3 being absolute shit and both games coming out within 4 months of each other kek. There is basically no trust from either GW nor the consumer base that a good 40K game can be made right now.

Also for some reason fantasy seems to get a lot more money thrown at it than 40k. While fantasy has been balling out with creative assembly AAA money and Vermintide which also had AAA production values, 90% of 40K games are isometric crap made in a garage. Deathwing was an isometric but it was made by Streum On which is a bargain bin developer to begin with and they apparently had a shoestring budget.

So there's a retarded feedback loop where 40K games are made with low confidence and low risk and then they end up being dog shit.

>Sometimes I wonder if its because GW refuses to let anything be made that even slightly competes with tabletop
that is quite seriously exactly what it is

At bare minimum the games being re-released to take advantage of modern hardware would be a godsend. Ultimate Apocalypse mod is great and breeds freshness into an old game, but it's almost impossible to play at the levels you would expect because the games engine can only use at max to gigabytes of memory, four with the patch. Imagine playing ultimate Apocalypse and getting a consistent 60fps with four Titans and a hundred models on the screen at once.

some of my favorite exchanges in the game

why would you want to take 40k seriously

Easy just make DOW 1 with better models.
Boom 60 dollar game.

Why was DOW 3 bad?
Did they push to hard for ESPORTS?
Did they try to make it competitive?

can we please get a new fucking game? that isn't shit? its almost been 2 fucking decades of the same god damn game.

not even complaining about how lore accurate it is, it just wasn't a good game. it was very unfocused and untested and... just unfinished. they had a weird idea of combining RTS and MOBA and it just all fell apart horribly. should have just stuck to just making DOW1 or DOW2 but better. go all the way or dont go at all.

>make piecemeal budget game with shiny gfx
>pump out dlc because fanboys will drop money on it and if the game is good dlc will sell anyway
modern GW is trash and full of yes men.

Shitposting aside DOW 3 has some good music in it and the best designed ORK race in DOW

Attached: 1589000636641.jpg (500x400, 45.16K)

it was a combination of things. instead of picking an idea and going with it they tried to implement many different ideas from contradicting gameplay elements. it was a fucking mess

imo its the video game equivalent of party cheese cake

Attached: 1863029-geeman.jpg (865x1170, 378.57K)

believe it or not DOW 2 has a pretty healthy competitive scene and probably they thought it could be a goldmine of a game if they went full esports. Some wise man once said "you make the game and if its good it will become competitive"

its okay with friends, but gets extremely repetitive

They made no attempt to try to be immersive with the lore- they went for max arcadey bullshit.

And they dropped the brutal warfare between competing fodder units in favor of herohammer with your MOBA hero being able to fight entire armies by themselves. The devs tried to justify this by saying that it was similar in DoW2 and DoW1 but heros were always cheaply force multipliers and those games.

to DOW2's credit it actually is good its just extremely niche and not beginner friendly at all

cause the other two races they said "you know make them like terran and protoss"

40k was pulpy & campy pre 4th/5th ed. It starting taking itself serious around 4/5th with all the grimdark shit and then they started riding capeshit in the last 10 years too.
You've now got shitty heroes & villains writing, in a grimdark setting, based on tongue-in-cheek 70's and 80's scifi. It's a fucking mess.
You can't ask people to invest in a tone and then shit all over it.
>hurr its not serious
>except when it is, the rest of the time
it's a setting for morons

that's literally what happened though. they made space marines expendable cannon fodder like terran marines and gave eldar fucking rechargeable shields they have NEVER had in the lore just ripped it off wholesale from starcraft. it was so fucking obvious and embarrassing really

Primarius exist now, so sooner or later there is going to be an attempt to crowbar them into the digital stage. As for how good that attempt will be? I say generally bad or good but with Vermitide level of micro transactions.
From what I saw they tried to cover both MOBA and Starcraft II bases at the same time, the result? A forgone conclusion.

>did 3 effectively kill it?
Ye
Actually it was dying when DoW2 came out and CoH2. Relic are just bad. BBI are the good Relic devs, but they're making HW3 for Gearbox.

what's the endgame for 40k bros? a OSR-type renaissance made by fans for fans? or will it keep dying this slow and corporate death?
it's been held together with memes, normalfags and the memory of better times for quite a while now...

>they made space marines expendable cannon fodder
that's how it was in the first two games
