Sega of Japan as a company is utterly brain dead, to an absurd degree. It's so bad that the Sonic games that people push so hard as the best of the series back when Yuji Naka was in charge were as far away from Sega of Japan's grimy mitts as possible, and by the time of 06 where he had to work under them directly again, he bailed. Sega of America may not be smart or even competent, but you can't attribute to malice what you can with SoJ.
