Turn based or RTwP? I hear turn based lets some classes like Paladin and Monks do well. I'm about to start the game, I prefer turn based like in DoS II but if it's better with RTwP I'll use that. Also, checking out alchemist, are their bombs bretty good or do they just buff?

I fucking hate RTWP but I still ended up turning off the turn based mod because it makes the game unbelievably slow and it's implementation of RTWP already seems a bit closer to turn-based than most
absolutely nothing wrong with real time because you can pause constantly to plan your moves. Its better than turn based because you're not waiting around for the assholes to take their turn. you can fucking stop time.
Monks are are the strongest class. The bombs from alchemist are okay, but you get an alchemist later on as a party member so.
Monk is fine regardless. Personally I prefer turn-based, since I can toggle it off for trash when I want to. The game has a built in movement/action/extra action thing going on, and I feel it's not very well explained. Sometimes found myself losing the ability to execute some of these actions in rtwp. Turn-based eliminated said problem.
Game is great either way though, I would recommend trying WITH turn-based though, and just toggle off if you don't like it
RTwP is dogshit
Yeah, was planning on Playing sorcerer, then picking up the ranger, alchemist, cleric, and fighter companions at least. I hear the companions aren't that good, but having mercenaries is really boring.
They're both the same fucking thing. Just different ways to represent character's speed.
You're an idiot
Tell me how they are different? Turn based is just the game pausing for you as opposed to RTwP where you pause it yourself.
>Turn based is just the game pausing for you
That's not true in the slightest. In RTwP, all units are acting at the same time. All my units could rush in together and eat an AoE fireball.
Now say in turn-based, two of my units go, both rush in to attack, now initiative goes to character that cast said fireball. They only have two targets to hit now, due to the fact the other units have not had the opportunity to move.
A perfect example of why turn based is more fun. Turn based presents way more "gamey" elements, like turn orders and initiative and things like that that you can modify to make your team have the advantage. There's a lot more thought to it, too. You get to plan an attack based on who will move next, trying to predict what enemies will do, etc.
Turn based is way more fun. I think RtWP is going to be pretty much dead after Baldur's Gate 3
DoS and DoS2 already showed that turn based > RTwP
Real time with pause (RTwP).
Turn-based is so unbearably sluggish, that it puts everyone except your grandpa to sleep. It is only fun during very intricately designed and unique boss fights, otherwise it is boring. You just get sick of tired of combat taking forever to end and the wait between turns is the worst.
Sure, RTwP requires more skill and is therefore more difficult, but any gamer that it isn't a complete retard with ADHD shouldn't have a problem with it.
That said, I was stoked when it was announced that Final Fantasy 7 Remake has a RTwP combat system. It turned out to be a fucking great game too.
Baldur's Gate 3 is going to fail, because it has absolutely NOTHING to do with Baldur's Gate gameplaywise. The review bombing is going to be so fun to watch.
Nobody asked for a fucking dumbed down D:OS clone with a four person party and turn-based combat designed to put gamers, that aren't complete retards, to sleep.
>Tabletop RPGs simulate real-time combat
>turn-based CRPGs emulate tabletop RPGs
>RTwP CRPGs simulate real-time combat
In other words, RTwP CRPGs allow a player to experience an RPG as was always intended.
Guess what, with Kingmaker's excellent turn based mod, you don't have to choose. Just switch before or even during combat using the keyboard shortcut
Big fight against 100 mindless zombies? rtwp
Boss fight against a single enemy? turn based
Literally the best implementation ever made. Allows the minute management when you need it, and allows crazy epic fights that dont take 5 hours.
Games that are based around turn based like DoS 2 have far less filler fights where as RTwP have 10-20x the amount of fights that don't matter. Turn based fights are build around much more strategy and each fight is more difficult, where RTwP has much more fights just to slow you down until you get to a boss. Kingmaker was build for RTwP so you are going to have a fuck ton of fights that take no skill, so turn based would just be a slog.
So you prefer turn-based, because it is easier and requires less skill.
You could just turn down the difficulty slider to "story mode", but I guess you are just to proud to admit that you are a retard. :)
Games that are built around turn based take much more skill than RTwP because they are BASED around RTwP. They take much more strategy than RTwP. Go play DoS2 and tell me there is not infinitely more strategy in that game than your typical RTwP. IT'S BUILT FOR IT.
this isnt a question, you can switch at anytime, even when the fight has fucking started or you're in the middle of swinging. i start fights with turn based and switch to rtwp when win condition is done. If im overleveled for the area i go rtwp, if im underleved i go turn based. If it's a boss i do turn based, if it's a big brawl against small enemies i do rtwp
The companions are good enough if you're on normal. Ekundayo is a beast and comes with a free extra body. Valerie can tank if you send her in first because the AI is very simple and she has massive AC. The rest range from okay to great depending how you build them.
Ah, I'm actually planning on going in on the 2nd highest difficulty. I usually find normal in games to be too easy.
You can't have massive battles like this in a turn-based CRPG, because they were designed to emulate tabletop RPGs and not simulate actual battles or reality. A developer could theoretically create a massive battle like this in a turn-based CRPG, but that would never happen, because it would way take too long for the player to finish.
RTwP > turn-based
>Tabletop RPGs simulate real-time combat
Spoken as someone who's never been to /tg/.
Keep crying.
>because it would way take too long for the player to finish.
All enemies that have their moves in a grouping, before a PC acts, are animated all at once.
That took me about five seconds of consideration to figure out.
Go in on Normal. Pathfinder Kingmaker's difficult is fucked and you'll just RNG die because your main character gets crit-killed
This is not most games. Normal is slightly easier than normal Pathfinder rules.
Only play the level above that uses normal Pathfinder rules if you have played Pathfinder for years and know every monster's stats and weaknesses and how to powergame.
DoS II has a few massive battles that go fine because of how the turn system works.
There's literally nothing holding turn based from doing this at all. Are you retarded? You fight 10+ mobs many times in DoS2, and they weren't even designing "big boy battles" like this.
Turn-based mode in Pathfinder CRPG is essentially:
"please hold my hand, I am having problems with the game and am too proud to lower the difficulty"
There is nothing wrong with asking for help to get through tough battles, but you are an idiot if you prefer turn-based exactly for this reason.
>A developer could theoretically create a massive battle like this in a turn-based CRPG, but that would never happen, because it would way take too long for the player to finish.
except they can? LOL
If you're gonna play the game make sure to download the turn based mod. Makes the game so much more streamlined since you can toggle combat based on the type of enemies you're fighting.
For trash mobs leave RTwP on and for bosses or anything requiring precision use turn based.
nearly give me a heart attack.
>Tabletop RPGs simulate real-time combat
>Spoken as someone who's never been to /tg/
Spoken as someone who has never listened to a word the great Gary Gygax has ever said or even realizes that tabletop RPGs were developed as an evolution of the war gaming genre, which simulates real-time combat.
If you have 5 melee classes and 1 wizard you don't need turn-based. Just right click everything.
It's more enjoyable and has better pacing, since there's never a time when the game is paused and not doing anything while you give orders to 6 people.
Incentivising better play with the mechanics not clearly being designed to instead incentivise low input play, is not lowering the difficulty, it's lowering the tedium. Mario isn't more difficult if every time you jump the game freezes and you need input the Konami code, it's just more tedious.
You know, i think Pathfinder RTWP is pretty easy compare to other games
I don't care about Gygax. The future is now, old man.
>Baldur's Gate 3 is going to fail [and] The review bombing is going to be so fun to watch.
I can hardly wait myself. Fuck Larian.
I am so pissed, that I will review bomb every single piece of shit Larian releases from here on out. I'll do the same for all of the upcoming CRPGs that Wizards of the Coast is planning on releasing, simply because they let this happen.
>buy on steam
>review bomb
>refund
>review bomb on metacritic et al.
FUCK YOU SWEN
