I was put off too, I said fuck it and gave it a shot before deciding whether to start on Cold Steel. Once I was hooked by the story I just couldn't skip over none of the games.

I say just give Sky a try, if you can't deal with playing them in order then jump to Cold Steel and watch a summary on YT. At least you can say you tried it. You can always come back to them later.

How so? I'm going through it right now but I know no nihongo to gauge the quality.

They tried to match the Xseed style and added a bunch of features that have become series standard, but the retards here will tell you that the barely functioning second language English of the leaked translation is better because in the geocuck translation Randy says "bruh" once.

Just start on Trails of Cold Steel 1 and go from there. After beating 3, play the others. It'd be like playing Yakuza 3,4,5 then 0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2 and then 6 and 7

The dialogue is among the worst in JRPGs and the story ain't much better, don't waste your time catching up and just enjoy the gameplay

This series is a trap and the only reason anyone is still in it is a sunk cost fallacy of wanting to see the buildup they've been teasing with nothing to back up since early on. Literally nobody is going to be satisfied by the end of Kiseki.

Are you guys for real? Cold Steel 1 has the most cringe-inducing opening segments ever, starting from a "dramatic" in medias res moment that only makes sense if you played the JP only games, followed by generic high school anime weebshit and all the tropes associated, like the protag being a mistaken pervert and such.

The only reason I stuck with Cold Steel is because playing Sky built up good faith in storytelling. No way would I recommend playing CS1 over Sky first

Oh yeah, that did strike me as odd, particularly so how he says it.

Literally no one plays Trails for the gameplay. They play it for the world building. Yes some of the dialogue gets obnoxious, especially when "catchphrases" like "You have my thanks" are voiced, but just the attention to detail in to stuff like who you bring affecting dialogue and the in-depth sidestories for all the NPCs in town is commendable
