Both could be good or bad depending on implementation. Turn based is more retard proof though, you get incredibly tedious combat at worst. Meanwhile bad RTWP is just a mess.

real-time with yawn is pausing so much it might as well be turn-based, or you're just streamrolling encounters and the game plays itself
or turn-based, which takes 30 minutes to kill a group of 3 bandits with cardboard for armor

Only true strategy and action games are kino, RPGs live and die by their stories and characters. Their game design can go suck a turd.

Also, Turn based because Real time is supposed to be Real time

Skipping animations is one thing and definitely a feature every game should have, but turn-based format also allows you to literally skip turns. "Wait x turns or something happens" (useful in waiting for regen for example), "travel to location or until something happens" (you can basically teleport around the map unless you encounter monsters or traps or something on the way), "continue task" (you could finish a task that takes thousands of turns each representing several seconds, in a couple of seconds) , etc. Pretty common in roguelikes for example.

RTwP is the worst of both worlds with the advantages of neither. The games that use it are so poorly balanced they devolve into two styles of play.

RTWP can be really good. For all its faults, FFVIIR really nailed the combat system, and Trials of Mana is good as well.
But for the most part, games that try to do it don't really succeed that well. Like says, turn-based is more retard proof, it's hard to seriously fuck up implementing that.
