JPRG Thread: Lazy Sunday Edition

How's the quarantine treating you bros? What JRPG are you whittling away at on this fine Sunday? I just beat P5R and i feel like i got robbed. the new content feels like an movie continuation of an already ended anime, and the new stuff does justify the price. I started up Brigandine in preparation for the sequel and it's a fucking blast.

I've been playing Swordcraft Story 1 and 2 in Japanese, it's a very straightforward read for a beginner.

>Swordcraft Story 1 and 2
never heard of them before but google leads me to think they look cool. are they worth the time to set up an emulator?

>stuff does justify the price.
doesn't*
doesn't justify the price. or the time investment. the new girl is a QT tho.

yes, and really with how easy and flawless GBA emulation is on multiple platforms, you have no excuse to be a lazy nig.

>yes, and really with how easy and flawless GBA emulation is on multiple platforms, you have no excuse to be a lazy nig
then i'll add it to my backlog list. i never fucked with GBA emulation. how easy is it really that easy?

is DQ7 worth playing?

It might be time to play FF1 again. I'm missing some FF vibes.

its a long fucking game if memory serves right. 7 and 8 are also the only ones i ever really liked, and thought they deserved worth the hype.

>It might be time to play FF1 again. I'm missing some FF vibes.
Based FF1 chad. There is just something about a simple yet challenging grind fest. What version you looking to play?

sure, its long as all fuck though, PS1 is preferable to 3DS since they removed puzzles in the first dungeon on 3DS and I presoanlly think the lower camera angle looks kinda jank whit the scale of buildings compared to how the same engine looks in DQ8

I felt the opposite about P5R, I was extremely disappointed in the original P5, so the new ending and story elements I loved immensely. The social sim side of things also felt 100x better due to expanded options and not being told to go to bed every other night of the game. This greatly improved the overall pacing of the game, as I felt like I was actually playing throughout instead of just feeling like I was waiting for stuff to happen like in the original. Despite this, it couldn't fix everything, such as overly repetitious dialogue throughout the game, and certain story moments being as flat as they were in the original. It still has serious flaws, but it was enough of a fix and improvement to take me from P4 > P3 > P5 to P5 = P4 > P3.

Anyway, I'm also going through hard mode in FF7 Remake, replaying OG FF7 for the first time in a decade, tempted to play DQ11 Switch, but I know I should wait until after finishing Xenoblade Definitive before starting that up.

I was thinking about the PS1 version, with the old MP system. I don't remember where the anniversary version on PSP stands, maybe that too.

Wonderswan this time!

How do you guys keep playing JRPGs?
They're all trite, weeks-long grindfests with little to no actual interesting qualities to them. It's almost always the same: the same shit and unchallenging combat, the same weak anime stories, the same overly long dungeons that only test your patience as you get to the next save point.
There are outliers, but they're the minority. The majority of the genre is nothing but a constant factory churning out unengaging wastes of time that I can't for the love of god figure out how anyone finds appealing enough to say "yep, let's do that again" for years, and even decades. DQXI and FFXII being called some of the best in their categories alone makes me realize just how shit the entire genre, by extension, really is.
So, how do you nerds do it?

finished Dragon Quest 5 last night. What a soulful game it was.
I want to start Knights in the Nightmare but I have so many games I can unfinished games.
It runs perfectly even on toasters. you can apply color corrections as well.

Are there any decent english translations for the second and third trails of azure games? I know the first one just got some big patch

By playing the games you like and not caring about what people say.

Finish DQ I today and started III

Stop responding to idiots.

Why are you replying to such obvious bait?
Exactly what part of that post made you think this person is genuinely looking for discussion?

Trying to kill the final boss of Vesperia's second act. Only problem is that I'm 5 levels underleveled, and have to TP recovery items

halp

Also tried fighting Judge Ghis in FF12. I'm also underleveled there, too.

99% of the genre is absolute fucking garbage
but i've never seen anyone say 12 is one of the best in the genre lol. it isnt even one of the best in its own franchise. it's bottom 5.

does this game ever stop being awful

Is there any jrpg on switch with a shitton of sidequests and loot? Either that or just coomershit. Both if prefered.

>DQXI and FFXII being called some of the best in their categories
uh no, I would not even rank them in the top 100

>I felt the opposite about P5R
you opinion is valid. the quality of life changes aside i wasn't in love with it. oh well it killed 80 hours of my life and the stell book will look nice to the other one on the shelf. (based Atlus giving their steelbooks a sleeve with the PS4 spine logo so it matches none steelbooks)

i only ever played the PS1 version. I've only ever heard good things about the PSP version tho.

>It runs perfectly even on toasters.
its sad i have a killer rig but all i wanna play are emulators of old jrpgs, my switch or graphically not intensive indie/old shit. Why is modern gaming such shit.
>you can apply color corrections as well
sick the gba versions of BoF1 and 2 really pissed me off with thier fucked color scheme.

>99%
I know it's really, really hard to communicate without hyperbole but settle the fuck down.

im not even being hyperbolic. a good jrpg outside of dq11 hasnt been released since 2000.

remember when one of the OPs of these threads called FFXII "essential" and Zig Forums fucking exploded? Good times.

Trying to get through the Trials of Mana remake. It's very uninteresting so far. Combat is fine, but there is pretty much no exploration and the progression is very linear. Story is typical SNES era shit. But I'm going to stick with it.

>I know it's really, really hard to communicate without hyperbole but settle the fuck down.
Not him but 99% is underselling it. For every 500 JRPGs there's maybe one exceptionally good one.

>does this game ever stop being awful
not really. and that applies to the whole series really. that being said i love Star Ocean is a "its so bad its good way"

>Is there any jrpg on switch with a shitton of sidequests and loot?
first thing that came to mind is Battlechasers. It's an curve ball to be sure but its a good game even though its made by some filthy round eyes.

Was it good?

I really don't know if I should get the collector's box of Xenoblade DE. I didn't like the original game, but the new artstyle is nice so a poster and a big artbook look like a good deal for the money.

Im still looking for games with lolicons

>it’s the Toriyamatard again
Figures

You sound jaded and sad. Consider going to therapy, life doesn't have to be this way.

Time to start over, faggot!

Attached: 1511452262224.jpg (638x629, 43.97K)

It didn't require you to sit in the sun with the glare rendering the game impossible to play so that's something.

Any of the SaGa games.

Are you playing it on a CRT? Otherwise it's impossible to perceive it's soul!

>a good jrpg outside of dq11 hasnt been released since 2000
How can you even say that when Shadow Hearts exists

Attached: Abyss Walker.jpg (555x586, 167.97K)

Are they anymore JRPGs with a manga-esque style to the cutscenes like TWEWY and Phantasy Star IV? I really like that style of presentation.

I perfered both Metal Gar and Zone of Enders to this shit!
