It's a PSP game with downgraded gameplay compared to the main games, and it's a pointless prequel story when 3 already perfectly explained how Big Boss became evil

dunno desu it's a great game, especially on ps3

I've seen people say they dislike the story because it retcons The Boss into letting Snake win in 3, but that was the interpretation of a crazy woman who worshiped her and had a warped view of her, and she came to this conclusion from the actions of AI made by her and based on this viewpoint, rather than the Boss's actual self.
Snake spent like two minutes with the AI and came to the conclusion that it was just a machine and wasn't a proper copy of her.

3 never really explained how and why he came with the concept of outer heaven and all that madness came to actually be, only that he was
emotionally and mentally damaged by having to kill the boss.

It's because it sucked and was on the psp. the boss's story ended perfectly with 3 but they brought her back as an AI for some reason. so stupid

The people hated it because it spoke the truth.

Wanting all those details explained is what led to terrible stories like Peace Walker and 5
All we needed to know was how he started down that dark path, we can assume what happened from there without shit like Hot Coldman, Metal Gear Zeke, Skullface, or wolbachia to retcon and convolute things

It's good for a PSP Game

This.
I'm not saying further details were absolutely necessary, but it had potential to be interesting, and Peace Walker delivered on that potential.

>an interesting story expands/is started
>you want more of it
Why is this a bad thing?
I'm not arguing about the games being bad or good, just that if you have a game story you like, why not have some more?

Mother base was a shitty mobile game/gacha and the game encouraged futoning soldiers instead of just fucking playing.

Also the grind was ridiculous and doing no kill runs against vehicle bosses was stupid.

The boss fights were terrible and you had to complete them over and over to finish Zeke, it got super boring fast

Because we already have the results of wanting more instead of just leaving things to your imagination

Just because it is another game in the series does not automatically make it bad.

It does when they're prequels in a heavily story focused series because they always convolute the storyline and make unnecessary retcons to justify existing
But it doesn't matter, because the games are still shit even by themselves

PW is hated? News to me

it’s not in and of itself, it’s just that metal gear did a shitty job at it and we would have been better off without it

How is portable ops?

I can't play my imagination. Fuck off

I don't like Big Boss and all of his side of things.

Yeah because playing fulton balloon simulator and grinding is so much fun, right?

Why do they load clumsy mechs with nuclear weapons instead of just using bomber planes or giant cannons?

It's a boring and repetitive skinner box style game which requires grinding to complete. The bosses in particular are weak because of this, there is no skill involved, you just need the firepower to take them down. That alone isn't a fault really, but it's such a departure from the other MGS games that it stands out like a sore thumb, and the gameplay just doesn't mesh well with the story heavy MGS style.

I wouldn't give a shit if it was a spin off, but Kojima clearly intended it to be a direct follow up from MGS3 and a bridge between 3 and 5. To be fair, 5 is total dogshit as well, so I just stop after 4 when replaying now.

Ultra linear
Psp
20 FPS before HD
Doritos and mountain jew

Because retards credit Peace Walker and V with introducing core mechanics like recruitment and staffing into the series.

In reality, based Portable Ops, the true and CANON continuation of Big Boss' story introduced those mechanics and shows not only the origins of FOXHOUND, but also the origins of Big Boss' idea to create an soldier nation. It's also the first place you really get to see young Big Boss acting in the capacity as a charismatic leader.

Nah. PW is pretty good and that's considering the PSP is a prehistoric handheld.

and, might i add, it introduces the first ACTUAL Metal Gear in existence--RAXA.

I kind of hated how we needed several, WAYYYYY more games than needed for the "Woah.. I guess we really are Big Boss and Outer Heaven."
We've had 1, 2, 3, 4. Four games setting up Big Boss and Outer Heaven. That's more than any other plot point or character in the entire franchise and in all of the games, and every single time it feels like I am retreading new ground.
Wasn't 3's ending enough to show how a many could become disillusioned to his own government and ideals? Did we need so many more games of "No, he's ACTUALLY becoming Big Boss now".
Imagine we got 4 Star Wars movies about Anakin FINALLY turning to the Dark Side.

All of the big boss centered games aside from 3 all suck. Repetitive mission structures with shit stories compared to the rest of the series.

HOT COLDMAN

I never played PO and for such a MGS fan I am disappoint in myself. I only played PO+

In MGS1 it was just because Otacon really liked mecha anime and convinced his desperate bosses it was a good idea
Everything that came after that is just because some drunk Russian thought it was a good idea

it was too kojima for average player.

The maps are abysmally small, that is my one big complaint. I enjoyed playing it for what it was though.

We got 3

Which game squandered its amazing theme song more, this or Phantom Pain?
I'd say this since PP didn't even really try to have a good moment with it, but Portable Ops used it on a death scene that was supposed ro be emotional but fell completely flat.

MGS3, PO (still counting it), PW, and MGSV

>Anakin suffering keeps rising and rising until it breaks him completely
Sounds neat.

>downgraded gameplay compared to the main games

Except it had the best controls and 3 was instantly improved by adding the PW movements in the 3DS ports. They should have kept that upgrade for the HD release of Snake Eater

I loved PW and put hundreds of hours in it, but the story was absolute garbo even by MG standards, and PO has it beat on every front except movement / fulton system
