It is rough, but you really just need to find the rhythm. You can probably get to her with a few bombs and lives, if not get to that point first
Take it slow, I'd say most of her spellcards are just slowly inching right to left to dodge
Do not rely on bombs. If you are gonna get hit then yeah use one, but she turns into a bat and you cannot hit her for a while after, same for Flan

Assuming you're playing on normal, just practice and don't get psyched out. She has fast and scary moves but they're not really that demanding once you ignore the spectacle. Also the big, transparent-ish bubbles have a misleading small hitbox, so don't let them scare you off into a bullet somewhere.

Now if someone could tell me how to get past this smug pair of suspenders that'd be great. So many decent runs massacred by fujiyama volcano and possessed by phoenix...

So practice Sakuya? SA's stage 5 and 6 are far harder so I don't see what's your problem here

6's continue system is much more forgiving, not sure why you'd miss SA's

She’s one of the few times the game demands a bit of memorization, or at least foreknowledge. She’s got this set of three blast types two of which you can completely avoid by going above her, then the next homes in on you and you should take advantage of the gap between shots to attack. Watch someone on youtube do it, youll probably see what im talking about

Unirinically watch and copy what people on youtube do. Even with a ‘guide’ it’ll still be tough to execute and still feel fun and rewarding

Pay more attention to score. If you know what youre doing you can earn at least three extra lives easy. If you dont pay attention to scoring at all youll probably only earn 1

Scoring isnt something you learn about after beating the game normally, its something you learn to help you beat the game. This applies to many shmups as many will reward extra lives.

I practice hers too, but I still get too messed up by her, I tried 6 a few times and was just surprised by how short it was and how I could beat it in practice more often than stage 5.

I'm just more used to being able to bash my head against the wall until it's gone, then move on to the next one and repeat.

Touhou games are too fucking hard

touhou isnt even remotely hard as far as shmups are concerned, you might just be really bad at video games. Mushihimesama is far worse than anything touhou has for difficulty, and that's still an entry level shmup for japan.

Just play on easy mode until you realize that not being challenged enough is boring

Stop tryharding, their normal modes aren't that far apart.

I'm guessing that dude just isn't used to getting a game over before stage 6. If you're not used to arcade games you should adjust your expectations to not clear everything right away
