What do you think of the most underrated vidya genre?

Best fucking level in gaming is a linear literal hallway.

>"stealth"
I want to play Thief Gold right now and I remembered I downloaded this image from Zig Forums a while ago explaining what difficulty and settings to go for. Just checked the image and it's unreadable. Anyone who have it that can post it for me?
Sniper Elite 4 is pretty great
sniper elite is a jank fest that puts poorly stylized graphics for smooth mechanics
As long as no alarms are triggered it's still stealth.
Thanks
That mission is an endurance round of a hundred enemies descending upon you pre-aggroed. Alarm is the first thing that happens and you have to kill the entire army to finish the mission.
Stealth has been killed, skinned and now everyone and their grandmothers are wearing its skin.
Is there even a single AAA 3rd person game without any stealth these days?
It's a shame suppressed ammo is OP
I think it's dead. Which is probably why I am bored out of my mind right now.
Is the new TloU2 considered stealth? I know many consider the first one a stealth game, albeit shallow. So I'm somewhat interested in it.
What is TFix Lite btw? If it's like a mod loader then I don't need that yet, but if it patches the game then I guess I need to get it
Unironically the only good Kojima game and the only one that's a stealth game
Can you attempt to type that sentence again? Because that's not English.
Yeah I just tried it when making a steam review for the game. I stood half a step away from an enemy while shooting a Springfield past him and he didn't hear it.
>Expected a high-octane frag montage simulator
>Got a spiritual successor to Splinter Cell
No, shit like TLOU, Far Cry, AC, Tomb Raider and whatever else shows up on the front page of Steam's stealth section are not actual stealth games.
Is it really that good?
Stealth is nowhere near as complex as Splinter Cell but it's mostly about the sniping anyway. And how to do that discreetly and precisely. However it is made precisely for the autistic perfectionists who use quicksaves every five seconds to achieve a perfect stealth rating, because loading is literally instant.
I appreciated Thief adding new special loot goals and sometimes encouraging the exploration of other areas at higher difficulties.
Older games in general seemed to do that more, back when maps were more mini sandboxes rather than linear corridors. Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Timesplitters 2 are good FPS examples.
Do I go mod-free for the first Thief run or do I use some of the ones recommended in a Steam guide?
Thief Gold HD texture pack
Child of Karras Sound Enhancement Pack
I haven't played Goldeneye but after checking some of the maps of the levels that game looks insultingly linear. It's not a hallway, it's a labyrinth, i.e. a maze with only one way to go and no intersections.
Dark Engine games have such low polycounts that high-resolution texture packs make the game look worse, not better. All you're doing is accentuating how little detail the levels have.
Yeah that's what I was worried about. I usually don't go for ambitious texture packs in old games.
Ass Creed Unity
In my mind there are two kinds of stealth: ghost (undetected, pacifist) or predator (undetected, silent killing), but for me if not type 1 is not true stealth.
ghostfags are retarded, it's like some faghat claiming that no hit no roll is the definitive way to play dark souls. They're the vegans of the stealth genre.
I used to speedrun ghost Tenchu games of all things but I'm not so full up on my own farts I'd consider it a good way to play. It always comes down to exploiting bad AI anyhow.
Also Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun if you want a really tough but well crafted and long stealth RTS
asscreed has never been, and will never be a stealth game.
It's a historical tourism simulator.
>finally set up Thief
>menus seem a little fucked up
>click on the map in-game to write on it
>game crashes
uh oh
Play Unity. Stealth is very important in it since your combat is weaker and it's easier to die in. Also you get more rewards for being sneakier.
And there are lots of missions involving stealth/espionage as well as detective work which are probably the best missions in the whole series.
