All of them are pretty good. Awakening is a good introduction for first timers. After that try out the special edition Fates nyaa.si/view/1123597 which improves on the Awakening battle system, has great music and fun engagements. There are 3 routes included, each is significantly different in terms of story, characters, maps and gameplay. BR is easy and straightforward, CQ is a challenge but very rewarding, and Revelation is the conclusion of the story (but isn't that good so just run it once if you like the characters). Typical first playthrough goes BR->CQ->Rev but the story is generally poor so many people opt to just play Conquest and leave the other two games alone. SOV is the last 3DS game and is a remake of an earlier game so the levels lack much of the clever design of later games and it can be a chore to play, but the presentation is very good so many people still enjoy its characters, story, and music.
