Why did people obsess so much more over OoT than any other Zelda? Was it just due to being the first 3D Zelda or was it the endless hype train of "just a bit longer" that Nintendo strung people along on for years until release?
Why did people obsess so much more over OoT than any other Zelda...
Pseudo lore, mostly.
the n64 was so starved for games, the few games it got were hyped like manna from heaven.
oot is the definition of an average, middle-of-the-road zelda game, but nintendo fanboys desperately needed a "killer app" to cope with how nintendo got blown the fuck out by ff7, so they memed it as the greatest game of all time.
>Koizumi envisioned the fairy as a cute girl, but displaying such a character wasn't possible on the system due to the Nintendo 64's technical limitations.
OoT was technologically mind-blowing and revolutionary for us boomers that remember going from LttP to OoT.
>first 3D zelda
Yea basically this. Same goes for SM64
>Was it just due to being the first 3D Zelda
Yes.
>tfw you preferred ALTTP at the time and still do
oot was leagues better than ff7 and alxo a billion times more impressive from a technical standpoint. hell i loved ff7 but i'm not blinded by consolefaggotry
FF7 was a more 'mature' story. That made it far more palatable to people who had gotten a bit older and weren't that satisfied with a "collect 3 spiritual stones/pendants, have main story event, collect 7 widgets, fight end boss to get Triforce/save Zelda" format
It is due to the enormous amount of SOUL it has.
Clearly you did not understand the story. Beyond the "widget" collecting it was about letting go of childhood and transitioning into adulthood.
>oot is the definition of an average, middle-of-the-road zelda gam
opinion discard
>alxo a billion times more impressive from a technical standpoint.
other way around, the n64 was literally too weak to run ff7.
>game is about letting go of childhood and transitioning into adulthood
>fanbase is a bunch of manchildren who refuse to grow up
what did they mean by this?
That almost sounds like BoTW fags that freak out over the slightest amount of criticism it receives
Nigga let's not pretend that OOT's story's more than just some superficial tripe. Story telling is not and has never been Nintendo's forte. The first time they tried to tell a story was with Other M and it ended up being an absolute abomination.
Even if it was true, FF7 is more "mature" at face value than OoT and that's all that matters to most people.
Why do people leap so much about this game. Contextually, for its time, the game was an immersive technical AAA masterpiece on the vein of Skyrim, it was groundbreaking as the first 3D Zelda title, and ground breaking for its implementation of new features and control scheme that you take for granted today as just the “logical” choice but when in reality people were still using d-pads to navigate 3D environments like a bunch of dick heads. On top of that, the game itself was incredibly well polished and memorable and still holds pretty well today.
For me it is the quintessential example of what a video game should be.
I don' think the people that made technical messes like every Final Fantasy game ever are very credible when it comes to programming.
speaking of technical messes, oot was a 20fps slideshow (17fps in PAL), which is inexcusable for an action game.
And FF7 is 15FPS in battles. 15 whole frames per second to render a few character models in a small box.
> so they memed it as the greatest game of all time.
Ironic thats exactly what happened to Final Fantasy 7. Shits only as popular as it is because it had a good marketing team behind it
ff7 is turn-based, it doesn't matter nearly as much as the nauseating framerate on oot. the n64 couldn't even handle a single ff7 character model on screen without the framerate going to shit.
>the n64 couldn't even handle a single ff7 character model on screen without the framerate going to shit.
If it was programmed by the clowns at Square maybe.
"the clowns at square" were consistently making better games than bingtendo, so...
I still think OoT and MM have the best atmosphere of all the 3D Zeldas
They were making movie games running at a blazing 15FPS sold entirely on their FMVs.
>They were making movie games
you mean like oot with its cinematic framerate and unskippable cutscenes?
No I mean like FF7.
ff7 isn't a movie game. oot is.
The most delusional post ever made.
It's because it was the first 3D Zelda game. OoT is genuinely bad, but it was first.
FF7 wasn't anything special.
I say this as someone who doesn't like OoT.
