I think the very first one was a spinoff yeah but the series became its own thing. No, it's not turn based, it's an action RPG; you see monsters in the field and you can do light, heavy attacks, jump and dodge like any average action game.

It's not a spin-off at all. The first game was called Final Fantasy in the west because brand recognition sells, when in actuality it has no connection to the series.

welp, all that's left is a 3rd playthrough to platinum this bad boy. I thought triple exp with random cactus bonus was overpowered, i forgot levels of characters from previous sessions carry over. Fucking one-shoting Full Metal is hilarious

It's very easy even on hard difficulty. Kind of repetitive too. The big thing going for it is you choose which party members from the start and they are very customizable which begs for multiple playthrough and it is fun to see how broken of a combination of skills you can have on a single character. With that said. fuck me I just finished with my first playthrough and I really don't think I'll be doing it with the three other again soon personally.
