The game's development was an absolute shitshow and it ended up costing a lot of money to get it to market. The game is also niche as fuck, Zig Forums's visceral reaction to it is proof enough. I don't know how many people who have read Thomas Pynchon, histories on the Paris Commune, Klaus Theweleit etc. are also in the market for visual novel/point-and-click "RPGs"
They're trying to milk it for as much as it's worth but I absolutely guarantee they're in for the Pillars of Eternity treatment, where the first games sell well and is critically successful but the sequel sells like shit because people never actually finished the first one (how many people bought it thinking there would be some kind of combat?)
