I used to play this at my friends house in 2001 but never beat it. 19 years later I just finally cleared it on the pc, but with the original and superior visuals.
What did Zig Forums think of it then and what do you think now? How does it compare to other shooters with a huge legacy like Half Life 2?
this, and it's not only fun, it's the only good one
James Green
>How does it compare to other shooters with a huge legacy like Half Life 2? its actually a fun and memorable game half life 2 is really bland
Henry Morris
I'm going to try 2 for the first time when it goes up tonight on pc, what am I in for? I've never even got around to touching that one before.
Asher Martinez
The only good game ever created.
Matthew Parker
It's a solid game. Not a fan of the multiplayer but the campaign is fun, even if it begins to tediously reuse spaces.
Grayson Lee
>even if it begins to tediously reuse spaces. I had no idea how bad this was. The outdoor levels are so great, why is so much of the game bland sci fi interior??
Connor Walker
>not a fan of multi-player Did someone get filtered by scorpions in blood gulch because he didn't know how to hull down? Lmao
Ian Miller
I'm in a similar situation, finally beat it on Legendary the other day. I think I've finally fucking vindicated my childhood because jesus christ the level design gets outrageously bad. I completely understand how I got lost in a linear shooter game as a kid now. The combat sandbox still holds up, but the level reuse has only gotten more blatant with age.
Aiden Gutierrez
how do you do that? i never use the vehicles though
Hudson Butler
I think me and my childhood friend never beat it either because the levels all look the same and we were playing on a shitty crt tv and couldn't see where we were going.
Leo Lee
Love the atmosphere and it lay a lot of groundwork, but later Halo's improve on it both mechanically and in their pacing
Wyatt Sanders
How does 2 improve upon 1?
Ian Butler
Duel wield, melee is more useful, magnum isn't overpowered, no lengthy backtracking and slowly traversing through large barren areas, more enemy types. I think more vehicles too but I could be remembering wrong
Aaron Torres
>magnum isn't overpowered that's not an improvement
Kayden Williams
Is there still a ton of sci fi interiors that all look the same so you get lost constantly?
Ethan Cruz
I like the OG magnum but shit was broken beyond belief No, it's more straightforward and linear, which has its own drawbacks I guess but I don't mind
Nathan Martinez
>it's more straightforward and linear I don't really see it as a drawback with something like halo. String me a long to the gunfights as efficiently as possible.
Nathaniel Evans
2 and 3 do that nicely
Adam Cook
good to know. I could probably google this but I'd rather hear an estimation from an user, but how long is 2's campaign?
Dominic Sanders
>original graphics how? Xbox emulator?
Nathan Cook
the mcc version lets you flip between the original graphics and the hideous remake graphics instantly.
Kayden Turner
same with Gaylo 2 btw
Isaac King
I didn't even know there was a remake version of 2. Is it just as ugly as 1?
Ian Jones
Eh, similar length to 1's iirc. Maybe an hour shorter. 3 is the shortest of the trilogy but it's my favourite campaign, so take that as you will
Jeremiah Garcia
Haven't played it yet >:) But apparently it doesn't look as good as Anniversary multiplayer
Grayson Sanders
I love and still do but it did age.
Benjamin Fisher
2 is the best game in the series, and the best FPS ever made. Arbiter levels are based, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Carter Walker
It didn't age, you aged.
Chase Murphy
I'm excited to finally go through it, I was always salty as a ps2 person that I couldn't play it back when it was getting coverage on Cheat and Xplay constantly.
Get ready to literally have the game's entire script memorised after one playthrough. Nothing ever made - no game, movie, TV show, anything - has such a memorable script. Every other line is a masterpiece. I realise this isn't exactly what makes a great game, but it is something they only get just right in Halo 2 and never recapture.
Juan Richardson
Halo was peak 2000s core. I don't think it has aged well
Nolan Russell
I never really compared Halo to Half Life 2, more to the original Half Life and between the two I think Halo was the better overall experience and I would extend this to HL2 aswell.
