Why are there no good MMOs anymore?
Why are there no good MMOs anymore?
normalfags moved on to different genres and the only people left playing were faggots and autistic neckbeards
They can't figure out how to appeal to people who enjoy a genre with no gameplay
name one MMO that was objectively good for the gameplay and not the community
Sounds good. Autistic neckbeards are the backbone of video games and normalfags ruin everything they touch. So when are mmo's going to get good again?
There were never any good MMOs. Thousands of hours lost to Ragnarok, Ultima, Mabinogi, Runescape 2, and I can finally admit this.
I've spent insane amounts of money and time in shells of those games, like WoW, FFXIV, Ragnarok 2, Tree of Savior... All chasing something that was never really there in the first place.
Communities have changed. Normalfags are the new targeted userbase. Also this Farmville unironically has more players than current gen MMOs.
DAoC, namely DF and the RvR. Although you're just going to say that's "community" because it involves people.
The majority of players expect immediate gratification and as such faster paced games with shorter times to rewards have become more popular. As such, online multiplayer games have shifted to games where a larger number of players interact in short bursts.
fast travel and lfg queues turn them into singleplayer games
Because they are no longer games, they are skinner boxes meant to increase "retention rate", basically meant to keep you playing for the longest time possible. Of course the amount of time it takes to develop ACTUAL content is much much longer than the amount of time it takes to finish it, so developers like blizzard and bungie find ways to artificially increase playtime without adding any meaningful content, like daily quests, random stats on items, dungeon caps and so on.
>DAoC
god damn i actually forgot about that one
i'll give that to you user, even if i never really liked RvR
The "massive" in MMO is a big meme. Small multiplayer servers with close knit communities are where the actual fun is at.
Elyos faggot
Btw I miss Aion. I assume it's still around but I don't have time to play this
WoW set the foundation, a horrible foundation that the genre has never recovered from.
fuck I do miss Aion. lots of fun before f2p
Playing through the FFXI with Trusts confirmed it for me that the game is good on its own even without relying on the community aspect. They really did put in enough effort for it to be considered a good mainline game for that series. It's too bad they won't revisit it and make it a more polished singleplayer experience or just reuse the setting for another game.
Skype and then discord along with automatic matchmaking/partymaking systems ruined the whole community thing.
In an attempt to add in more QoL features they optimized the human element right out of the game.
Now in mmos people don't have to talk to players in-game to find a party complete dungeons, they just get into a party queue and the system handles it. Alternatively they already have friends they're in a party with and just stick together.
Another issue was that gameplay never evolved past the tab-targeting bs.
Ironically I felt more in touch with older MMOs playing Death Stranding than any other MMO I touched in the last decade.
Aion private servers when???
Don't bother. It's Gacha now.
Graal online classic, PokeMMO.
>had my first gf in graal online back in 2002
>pretty sure she was a boy
The problem is MMOs need normiebux these days to keep from having the plug pulled on it.
Having a niche but dedicated playerbase isn't enough anymore. If your MMO isn't pulling in WoW-tier numbers it might as well be dead.
As soon as devs stop catering to the people that left.
Discord, killed community and socalizing
try out archeage unchained, Kaylin server, ask about Tulsi's Tavern. Hearing the story will give u the feel u seek.
It's coming out on Mobile soon, look it up.
playing FFXI made me realize that all i've ever wanted was a FF game with a FF story and deep gameplay systems. that is why i loved ffxi so much.
Yeah, soon™. I've been waiting ever since I heard about it like five years ago.
MMO's were always bad games. They were always primarily about socializing. Social Media has stolen their thunder, permanently.
was a single player FF game*
Unfortunately... there are. I'm a hatefag but there's the elephant in the room that can't be ignored.
