Why aren't there any deep sea horror games? No, Subnautica doesn't count.

>No, Subnautica doesn't count.
Why?
>underwater horror
Either you die instantly because you have no place being there, or it loses any semblance of fear because the enemies clearly aren't terrifying.
Goddamn, i lost the "pressure" copy pasta.
Does anyone have it?
sea creatures cannot get any bigger than blue whales, especially not active predators.
because the 'monsters' look like pixar characters
There isn't a big enough market to put forth a decent budget deep sea exploration game.
what are the biggest "active" predators? Sperm whale?
The scariest part of subnautica is all of the sounds around you as you dive though.
Also I heard they removed the giant submarine, is that true? That thing was fun to go around in after being scared shitless for hours
barotruama?
I don't think that's how pools work
>Why aren't there any deep sea horror games?
because they ultimately fail to make the correct atmosphere
>game is set underwater.
>perfect visibility and almost no darkness, even in deep sections
if they want some light have the game set in one of these shallow swamps that form natural mazes with crocs in them
play barotrauma then
I'd say Orca Whales, those guys are fucking brutal and can kill sharks by slamming into them so hard they implode.
The underwater parts in SOMA were pretty good
>huge
>strong
>fast
>powerful brain
I can only imagine how many calories they consume a day
What if the game ignored that? And made giant but agile predators? Would that take away from the fear factor?
>No, Subnautica doesn't count.
Yes, it does and you are proven wrong.
I got fucking memed by the angler fish
I actually fell for it like a retard
>boot up barotrauma
>join game
>4 russians join
>they're professional speedrunners doing a destroy sub any% run
The Cyclops is still there- you might be thinking of Below Zero, which is a sequel
would you like to speculate on what caused these scars and then reassess your statement
Taking the submarine out into the Pacific in GTA 5 is pretty spooky, especially in first person.
Are the submarines fun to use in Subnautica?
That jumpscare with the anglerfish pretending to be a guiding light still haunts me
Someone will make it eventually.
>Why aren't there any deep sea horror ones, besides the one game that is.
OP is a fucking retard.
Subnautica's not really supposed to be scary in 90% of the game, the monsters mostly look like cartoon characters (especially the Reaper Leviathan and Sea Dragon Leviathan, i.e. two of the 3 largest aggressor monsters) and the game's unknown areas are almost all treasure troves so it's not like the "unknown" is a bad thing in it. It's usually pretty comfortable.
The people who consider it "horror" usually have a deep-seated fear of the deep already (Thalassophobia) or just find anything with dangerous stuff that can come out of nowhere like a Reaper or Boneshark to be a "horror" game.
there's actually a deep sea horror game I forgot the name of where you're piloting a submarine and the sonar is showing enormous monstrosities
had webms of it posted often in subnautica threads
I'd still recommend it as it's the best you'll get- but they really should have rethunk the lava biome and shoving certain leviathans in your face. Seeing that goofy motherfucker move around in a well-lit, poorly textured area kind of killed a lot of the scare factor
Every game with an ocean is a deep sea horror game if you're a massive pussy who fears the ocean like me.
Silent Hunter 4, Titanic VR, etc.
because water in videogames sucks. 3D movement isn't engaging enough in order to stand out and give you a good impression. It breaks the flow of any other mechanic hence this setting has been hated for decades and considered a chore for any game.
Why would you want this anyway?
Orcas are not whales but overgrown nigger dolphins with a chip on their shoulder.
Idk man, I think the audio design is pretty effective at building tension the way a horror game does. Putzing around for materials and hearing a reaper sound is pretty terrifying, especially before you've figured out how to deal with them.
SOMA, its pretty good
The one where there's a sonar pulse and it reveals and giant crustacean using a wrecked submarine as a shell?
I disagree. Getting spooked by a godzilla roar from a goofy grimacing snake doesn't make it a horror game, although I do like the sound design.
Is the whale hunting the squid? Or vis-versa?
"....humanity though, by the time they realized it was too late. THEY have wake up"
enjoy
Okay I laughed.
Narcosis, but it's short.
they hunt giant squid. when they beach themselves they sometimes find squid beaks (the only hard part of the animal) in their stomachs.
What the fuck? Why would a water park make a pool that deep and put monsters in it?
