Andromeda: Is it really that bad?

Is Mass Effect really dead because this? Ive been playing through it out of curiosity and my personal impression is that the story is very derivative and basic and the acting and script is sub par and every campier than ME in the past, the menus are overly complex and frustrating, but the gameplay it is actually decent. If you put on n7 armor, squad a krogan and and Asari and squint its almost exactly like the old games but with jet packs, better guns and better powers. Im annoyed because of this had kept going it could have improved because it wasn't all bad to start with.

Andromeda really isn't as bad as its made out to be. I really liked the exploration on the planets, it felt like Cisquisition but done right and without all the gay MMO stuff. The main problem is the lack of big scripted story missions. There's like 5-6 actual main missions, then a loyalty mission for all the squad members. The presentation for everything else is just sidequest tier and really drags things down. If the presenation of all the side missions were on par with say ME2 then Andromeda would have been a lot better.

I can't believe they'd follow up Mass Effect 3, but think Andromeda was so bad it can't be followed up.

Im glad its not just me. Damn shame this tanked so hard, good bones.

It killed a franchise, that should tell you something

Now the the universe has established lore it can definitely still come back. The Reaper thing is played out, but it seems all the inter species politics are still a great source of conflict.

My point is I don't think thats deserved. Its deeply flawed, but no more that ME1 was in my opinion. ME1 had a more engaging story and characters, but the gameplay was nowhere near as tight.

Good gameplay, but didn't feel like a Mass Effect game, feels more like Star Wars

>Its deeply flawed, but no more that ME1 was in my opinion.
You can't be serious.

I felt like it aesthetically it was pretty solid. Its got much more believable recognizable technology. The environments where decent. my only complaint was the same wildlife seemed to populate multiple different planets which was a failure.

None of the characters were very interesting and the main character is a retard. The villain was also fucking terrible. They managed to make me not care about anybody. Lot of filler side shit on the side but I can't feel the need to do it all if there are no stakes and I don't care about the people I'm supposed to care about. It's like Mass Effect 1 without the interesting story or characters. A real mess of a game.

Im not saying I don't prefer ME 1 in some ways, but if Im being fair the graphics did not age well and the whole thing looks and sounds janky and stiff.

>magical terraforming ancient tech
>party member bitches about environmental consequences when I mined for natural gas on a literal desert planet
the only thing andromeda has is decent gunplay

The first 10 hours are good. But soon it gets repetitive and the story gets even more dull. I had to make a lot of effort to finish it and the ending is awful.

>is it really that bad
Yes. It's fucking terrible. Played 1 a dozen times, 2 half a dozen, 3 twice, just recently I played the trilogy again with JAM+CEM, and then started Andromeda and the difference in quality is staggering. It still feels like an unfinished alpha. There was potential, but the devs just didn't have the experience needed to utilize that potential.
>is mass effect dead
No, BioWare will definitely pop another Mass Effect game out as long as DA4 sells enough to have EA reconsider taking them behind the shed.

I do hate the main character. Goody goody boy scout. I don't understand why you couldn't just make your own character. I do feel slightly gypped that I couldn't play this game as a grizzled Turian sniper or a Salarian scientist instead if that guy. That was missed opportunity for sure, but something that could be corrected in a sequel.

Gameplay is fine, arguable an improvement if you discount retarded AI, but it's not a mass effect game.

I definitely detect an unfinished quality, like they got in over their heads with to many moving parts. That's why I sort of feel like somebody needs another crack at it. So close and yet so far.

I seriously, seriously want to fuck ryo-ohki while ryoko watches.

Stakes feel blasé compared to the OG trilogy. Characters feel like Marvel ripoffs, and have zero charm. Dialogue is atrocious. You are never allowed to feel any sort of tension because of the constant attempts at humor. Graphics and glitches destroy the atmosphere.

Gameplay is fun, but everything else is fucked.

Why the fuck is this even a thread. Do you really have to fucking ask? It’s been almost 4 years

fpbp

It captures the exploration feel similar to the first one but is just a really boring game. They had unlimited creative potential and they just made a worse version of the milky way galaxy.

>as long as DA4 sells enough
Both series are dead, no worries about it.
Anyone worth something already left the team.

>my only complaint was the same wildlife seemed to populate multiple different planets which was a failure.
Wasn't this explained as being a side effect of that one ayylmao race formerly having an empire throughout the galaxy? I thought they would have moved wildlife around throughout planets or something which caused that. It is still pretty lazy though.

I personally liked Ryder. The character sucks if you try to play him as a badass space marine like Shepard, but if you make an autistic female Ryder and embrace the goofiness of everything then suddenly the MC is pretty fun.

How is it not though? In terms of gameplay all the critical elements where there. I finally enjoyed playing a biotic even. I played every original any game as a soldier a sniper because those are the only game play styles I could find that were effective and engaging. Don't even meaning to I ended up with a biotic adept pistol specialization here. Annihilation field is awesome.

Fun combat with nice looking planets to explore. Decent sci-fi game overall but not a good ME game.

>They managed to make me not care about anybody.
that caused me to have no investment into the story, thus it became like playing wow were i just ended up going to the mark on the map and mindlessly following the markers, killing shit in the way and playing rune sudoku. the MP would of been fun if it wasnt so bullet sponge and combos were as powerful as a wet limp lettuce leaf compared to 3's power combos, there was no satisfaction from well placed head shots with power weapons except for that one sniper rifle that got nerfed in the first patch. movement was good, ddint mind the character bonus grinding but that was about it

I just wondered what people really thought of it. I knew a reputation was bad going in, but then I also found myself liking a lot of what was there despite the flaws. In theory this is a great game on paper.

I felt like they were saving the cool stuff for the Kett for a later game. It was implied they were like the roman empire and ruthless as fuck. Instead we got autistic collectors.

A lot of people liked DAI, enough for it to get a full set of DLC. They'll probably like DA4 too. Bioware has a captive audience, the only issue is EA forcing them to push out stuff half baked, so even their mongo morongo playerbase notices the lack of quality.

What form?

I bought this a while back and played for a little last year but recently watched my brother 100% it. The games story is meh but it overall was fun. Me and my brother agreeed that the graphics look kinda worse than ME3

It had the best biotic gameplay in the series
