because gamers are now little kids or manchildren and no one wants to waste effort to make something good when you can just follow trends and make shit that gamers will gladly eat and then praise you for it.
It saddens me that no one is aware that gaming is fucking dead and will never reach even the 5% of it's potential.

Obduction was pretty good, if kind of rushed at the end. At least we got to see the familiar live-action actors composited on the 3D game world for the authentic Myst feeling.

Imagine being filtered by a popular mobile genre and acting smug about it.

Because Myst was never a good series to begin with. It was one of the first creeping shadow of movie games, that people just selectively ignore because it looked somewhat pretty on shitty old computers. There is nothing in Myst that could be considered timeless or even lasting.

It's not that hard

IMO Myst "won" in the same way JRPGs won. Exploration/Puzzle games filled with lore and ambiental storytelling died out because their core components were integrated into other genres. I might be stretching a bit here, but I don't think Dark Souls would be the same without Myst.
Once you lose that core part of your identity because other games adapted it into its core, what's left is just a point and click game, and those still have their own niche market.

The puzzles aren't that hard, though. If anything it's actually one of the less obtuse adventure games I've played since the main library pretty much tells you how most of the puzzles work and there's no inventory aspect to deal with.

The Starry Expanse has been in development for longer than Black Mesa and I'll be shocked if it ever comes out.

I'm aware, but last year the project devs started officially working with Cyan Worlds, and I'm curious what the result of that will be.

One of these decades I'll finish it. Having the entire world being completely interconnected even between islands was certainly fun to figure out, made you expand your thinking vs isolated book worlds.

not many people anymore have rudimentary knowledge of music, astronomy, counting, pattern recognition, sound association, spatial awareness, etc. required to be successful at Myst.

Nobody did the genre as well as Cyan. Every other adventure game I've tried to play has dumb obtuse puzzles where you find an item and have to figure out where to use it, but a lot of the time the solution just isn't logical or there is a logical solution that isn't valid.

Take Telltale's Sam and Max for example. I remember there was a puzzle where you have to make a chandelier fall to the ground. Sam has a gun to naturally you think you can just shoot the chain the chandelier is hanging from but no, you have to find a hot air balloon with a koala bear hanging from it or some other dumb shit.

Myst doesn't do that, it's just about finding a machine and figuring out how it works through experimenting and observing, and you can tackle those challenges as you find them without going through a whole scavenger hunt first. I don't remember any moments in the Myst series where I thought "why can't I just do X instead?"

Sound's like you'd enjoy The Last Express, Don't la the gold version though
