Honestly, the Pro shit actually means Professional instead of just being a higher trim level. They don't intend for normal consumers to buy them, and the price tags on them don't mean much to the intended customers who have huge budgets to create graphic design work stations.

on year 5 with my macbook still works the same the day I bought it. went through several HPs, Asus laptops previously.

I will say a lot of apple's other products are shit particularly the iphone, I haven't had one that lasted a year without slowing down and battery dying before the day was over. but the macbooks are quality I will give them that.

I got an MSI laptop I've had since skyrim released. It's survived having a whole glass of water being spilled on it while running and one time when I was drunk I threw it down my hallway into a bathroom, it needed some light reassembling after that. The battery is toast now, if it comes unplugged you got about 5 seconds to plug it back in.

My 2014 13” is still going nicely, shame it only has 8GB ram. I’m currently using a 2019 15” i9 32GB for work and it’s fast but the keyboard really sucks. Fuck the touchbar

All depends which gen of Macbook you get. Mine had a logic board replacement because the nVidia chipset killed itself, and then a year later the screen died. My friend's MBP that's a gen newer had the overheating issue with the AMD chip with the flickering screen problem. The generation after that had the battery swelling issue plus thermal throttling.

For the price of a not-shit Macbook Pro I can grab 3-4 Windows laptops. I'd rather just buy the Windows ones expecting them to last 3 years at worst with regular use.
