If you only played 3 hours you probably only saw like 5% of the game even ignoring all that this is going to add/change. It's hard to realize at first but Terraria isn't really a sandbox game. There's a clear progression where you kill one boss which unlocks the next one, and so on with one boss in particular greatly changing the whole world.
It's a much different game than it appears on the surface.
