Just did my first successful stick swap and I've now got a Seimitsu stick for shoot 'em ups, so let's have a thread to celebrate.
What rooty-tooty-point-'n'-shooty are you guys playing lately? Also, what peripherals are you using?

I command you to post in my thread.
i beat axelay recently, also did gradius and soldier blade on pc engine. im using a shitty faceoff controller, works well enough, but i do want to get a stick someday.

Is PC Engine worth exploring for shoot 'em ups? Honestly don't know much about it.
Looks awesome, I love Taito games.
Looks? You should play Darius user
I like choaniki
its got a wealth of shoot em ups worth playing. the star soldier series and games by compile are great, and a lot of arcade ports have extra content or different levels entirely.
I've played the original Darius, I'm guessing that's Darius Gaiden? it's definitely on the list.
Give me Cotton Remake REEEEEEEEEEEE
It sure is. Gaiden is my favorite, but G.Darius is pretty good too.
My favorite classic is gekioh shooting king
I've been using my Qanba Obsidian for a few months after playing shmups with a ds4 for years. Been going through Caladrius Blaze to 1CC it on very hard and also casually playing Danmaku Unlimited 2 for awhile
Give me PS3/4/Vita recs bros
Please
honestly try Caladrius Blaze, it's easy to break if you play as Caladrius though, but it's still got like 7 other characters you can use, and after you beat the game with a character you can use any power in their skillset on another character. it leads to it getting pretty broken if you play as Caladrius where he has the auto aim shot type and you give him the best abilities
Ahh yeah, I see. Darius seems kind of underrated next to the other horizontal shooters in legacy, but seems to have some really dedicated fans at least. Kinda want to try 1ccing the original before long since it's really not that hard.
That's cool, how do you like the stick? Some people like the DS4's D-pad, I thought it was okayish. I've had thoughts of getting an X1S controller or something since I heard the D-pad on it is a lot better, and it's overall great for stuff in general.
Honestly in fighting games i find it really hard to do some motions I do effortlessly on a DS4's dpad, other times it feels way more natural. Buttons are super sensitive and you will very frequently hit several buttons on accident, but at the same time that's an extremely good thing for response time. In shmups if you can take a lot of time to get used to it, you can be way more precise than with a dpad, but I still feel like a DS4's dpad is easier to use.
It's really if you want to overcome the challenge of getting used to a stick, some people who have never used a stick before immediately feel better playing with one. Honestly I switch back and forth between the input methods for fighting games and dankmaku. You'll basically never know unless you take the plunge and just try it.
Yeah, poor Darius seems to have been left behind compared to Gradius or R-Type.
Which is a shame because Darius has the best music
