I'd rather just replace his flying all together with a boost/double jump you can send him in any 8-directions with by double-tapping your jump. Flying with Tails has never felt good in any of the 2D Sonic games

It works better in Mania Plus than it did in World, where it's primary use was just to skip entire levels. It's also undeniably a better method of flying compared to Tails, you can actually GO FAST with it for example.
