It's been 14 years since Twilight Princess came out.
How has she been unsurpassed as the best companion character in Zelda? What did they do right?
Hardmode: You can't say "her design".

I want Midna to humiliate me every day.
No she hasn't
She's probably the most developed zelda character. Not a huge achievement since Zelda is typically light in the story and character department.
I mean I don't think i've met a single person that hates her.
I meet people who hate Fi, or dislike Navi or Tatl or even Korl - somehow -, but never Midna.
I love Midna, but rather than what she did right, is more what they did wrong after her, before giving up. We got Fi and then... nothing? At most Lana in Hyrule Warriors.
Midna would be better if she just had orange hair covering her crotch
Midna is always nude. Does this make her too lewd, or not lewd art all?
Not hard to see why, it's like Nintendo didn't even try. I can kind of get behind Fi being your companion, helping you out like Navi, and being pretty nice in general. Problem is by the time you leave Fi it's like it didn't mean anything to her being an artificial construct of the master sword. She could only describe what she remembers as being happy, but has emotional attachment to anyone she was with. Yeah, that would be pretty sad that you feel a lot of things but your companion barely feels content.
Navi was about as agreeable as Fi, she's like a more mature Tatl not bitching at you for making a mistake and if anything just insists too much to help you out.
Tatl was pretty annoying and frequently disagreeable to be around and very much like Midna was at first when you met her. She comes off like a teen sister. I can tell she's a young fairy because her advice reflects that.
So my guess is, Nintendo isn't trying hard enough and making Fi a robot was the last mistake they made.
but has no emotional attachment*
only companion in all video games ever created who makes you literally her bitch
I thought Linebeck was pretty cool. Korl was inoffensive most of the time but was cool as well. Linebeck was more of a built character though.
How many companion characters have there even been since TP? All I can think of are Fi, Linebeck, and Ghost Zelda. Fi comes from what is widely regarded as the worst (non-CD-i) Zelda game ever, and the DS games aren't far behind. Midna just doesn't have much in the way of competition.
Skyward sword isn't bad I just don't think it was great and it felt forgettable and a shore to play.
Fi made it easy to hate the game, everything else was forgettable for sure.
Also even though it was second gen motion controls they still weren't perfect making it, like you said, a chore to play.
because she's a dom and gaymurs are subs with self-esteem and/or guilt issues
It's weird because I thought a lot of the stuff in it were cool pieces that you don't see in Zelda much. I thought the Robot Pirate ship thing was cool and the fight with the captain on the front of the ship was neat.
Girahem was pretty cool. But It's not like I really remember much from that. I remember snippets of it and I remember fucking HATING the black porcupine thing you have to fight like three fucking times. I think that fight was what made me fucking drop it.
I want to fuck her so badly, oh god.
Every other companion except arguably tatl is really straightforward as a guide and doesn't really develop. Midna is a smug cunt who explicitly says she is just using Link at the start and develops throughout the story. She's also the real love interest of TP because Zelda has no screen time
Lana isn't really a companion, she's just an orginal character with plot relevance. She exists to watch Link and Zelda fuck for all eternity
I like how Zelda is actually depicted as a proper ruler in TP.
I wish we got to see more of that. A mature Zelda is a thing of beauty.
I think the biggest problem with SS is even if you remove Fi and the motion controls, the game is still shit because of all the backtracking and fetch quests
her butt
I didn't mind some of the back tracking. I think what I hated the most was the fire/soul vessel or whatever shit you had to go through where you play hide and seek with fucking ghosts.
The same way as Twilight Princess is unsurpassed as the best Zelda game
I'm excited to see how they plan on making BotW2 a more "dark" game.
She had a personality, an arc, and actually did stuff in the story. The game's named after her for a reason.
That said, the personality is probably the most important part, because it meant even when she was expositing just as hard as Fi, you didn't care because her comments weren't so fucking dry and it fit her character to talk down to Link.
the fang
obviously
Midna is the Asuka to Fi's Rei.
I wonder if they just gave up trying to do anything with Fi when they looked back at Midna as the last companion.
They wanted more of a Zelda-Link connection after the purely professional relationship in TP, so love interest was out of the question.
They tried to give Fi an arc, with her becoming more emotional over time, but combined wiht her constant asinine reminders, it was such a small part of her character that nobody cared about her.
She was actually integral to the story
Her voice makes me leak
She was just as important as Link was. Using him for selfish shit until she saw the lengths he went. Her design is pretty good though.
