Why does it look like that?
That would of been amazing, and would of put a real 3D sonic on themap
Why did Saturn have so many weird ass 3D games compared to PS1 and N64?
Sega was smoking crack
They still might be but they use it for the wrong purposes
the saturn did better than the N64 in Japan
Sega America killed the saturn by not allowing 80% of its library to be localized
>we have the sports audience we cant be seen to have weeb shit!
quadratic rendering (that is rendering directly from square polygons rather than using squares in editing and turning all of the squares in to pairs of triangles) was a unique feature of the Saturn that allowed true spherical objects to be rendered easily by rounding a true cube, so they used the shit out of it.
Sonic is shit
There's a reason why they cancelled it
In Lehman's Terms, nigger.
>would of
I hate you.
Computers make 3d things from triangles and the saturn used squares and you can make those square based polygons round because you basically just add a curvature to the area between the four corners whereas with a triangle you'd need to know which line is the middle and curve it differently and add a whole bunch of calculations and checks that make rounding things a lot more computer hurty so the saturn could make smooth round things much better than anything else could in 1995.
has anyone assembled the leaked levels into a playable game yet? i remember playing a single level windows demo a few years ago
i think the fisheye lens idea is neat but it definitely needed to be toned down and not done with a character that's main purpose is to go fast
This makes me nauseous just looking at it.
GAME USES SQUARES
ZUG ZUG
Sega of Japan's console division was fucking retarded. Their arcade developers were genius and Sega of America did nothing wrong.
>buy this $250 video card so that it's easier for us to port our games over
Not that user, but thank you for typing this info into the computer, user.
that tilt shift looks like garbage
The American team deserves absolute shame after 32X.
It was big in Japan but pathetically small in the west meaning that there were a lot more Japanese-centric releases on the platform and Jap-centric stuff tends to be weirder than your average global release
Also because the Saturn is really fucking weird when it comes to rendering shit compared to the PSX and N64
Not this, but an actually good Sonic game would have. Yeah it would have been hard to make but if you're telling me that in no theoretical timeline was it even possible to make a good Saturn Sonic game? I don't buy it.
Nothing would have saved the Saturn. They threw in 2 CPUs and no one knew how to get them working efficiently. It was always doomed
Imagine you have a cube and a shitton of sandpaper. Now sand the cube down until it is a sphere.
That's what the Saturn could do to render more advanced objects. The PSX and N64 couldn't do this.
It's amazing how many fake Sega fans who only give a fuck about Sonic screech about the Saturn. In the end NiGHTS into dreams is better than any fifth gen Sonic could have been, and it's better than any 3D Sonic for that matter.
In Nigger's Terms, Lehman
They also killed the saturn by announcing the release date half a year before it was supposed to come out, stressing out hardware manufacturers who absolutely could not keep up with the demand
Computas make 3d thangs from trianglez n' shiet but tha saturn used squares n' you can make dem square based polygons round cuz you basically just add a cold-ass lil curvature ta tha area between tha four corners whereas wit a triangle you'd need ta know which line is tha middle n' curve it differently n' add a whole bunch of calculations n' checks dat make roundin thangs a shitload mo' computa hurty so tha saturn could make smooth round thangs much betta than anythang else could up in 1995.
Nights fucking sucks.
saturn wuz squares n shit
I love how all the "fun" parts of NiGHTS are the ones that take place on a 2D plane. What an epic step into the third dimension!
Didn't stop any of the successful consoles that came out with weird architecture, like the N64 or PS3. It just stops shovelware from being made.
fucking lol
N64 had super strong first party support and the PS3 had tons of third party support + functioned as a cheap blu-ray player when blu-rays were really blowing up. Saturn had none of that
I love it to death but Burning Rangers was never going to get people to buy a Saturn in the same way that Mario 64 could or Pokemon Stadium did at the height of 90's Pokemania
The Saturn outsold the N64 in Japan.
I know, I agree with you. That person was blaming the Saturn having dual CPUs for its downfall
>SEGA of Japan tells America to make a budget console to buy time for Saturn
>SEGA of America says no way we can make and sell a new console in a few months, let's just make an addon for the Genesis
>SEGA of Japan gives them the go ahead, then pulls the rug out from under them in a few months because SEGA was a weird hydra where every head was doing something different
>Then blunders the Saturn launch on top of it
SEGA was so petrified of the coming 3D era they shot their own foot three times over. They weren't the only ones, Nintendo basically teased the waters with some failed addons and the Virtual Boy but they never went all in and killed them so fast no one noticed. Both Nintendo and SEGA knew Sony was coming after their failed respective deals and they both failed the quick draw with SEGA's being more devastating to their income and Nintendo coming in with lower sales but a ton of positive brand image and new properties.
i never understood what makes people so averse to the fisheye
