People think soulslikes are any less played out than bamham shit

>people think soulslikes are any less played out than bamham shit

Fuck you fags. "Souls clone" is a whole fucking genre.

>makes a post about Souls games
>posts a game that isn't Souls
But yeah, Souls clones are shit

"muh jumping muh parry muh no RPG elements"

Sekiro is soulslike, man.

>same develoepr as souls
>same systems + parry
>die twice lose your souls, i mean gold and experience
>exploration and boss grinder like every souls game

>axe attachment
>he's just holding the axe

What's so fucking special about it, then?

It's a cool axe

i don't understand the argument about soulslikes not being a genre. do they not undeeatans how language works, or never heard of the term metroidvania? anything can be a genre if enough people agree it is

>muh no RPG elements
This is a huge difference though
>same systems + parry
I don't remember magic, summoning or dodge rolling in Sekiro
>die twice lose your souls
Having a punishment for death doesn't make it Souls
>exploration and boss grinder like every souls game
What do this even mean? Interconnected openish areas don't equal Souls. Is Resident Evil now a Souls game too? Neither do challenging bosses

I don't think there's any debate over it not being a genre. My gripe is that people seem to act like "souls like" is any less played out than bamham stuff like Morder and Ghosts of weeb.

Every single one of the clones is factually terrible and there exist only 4 good Souls games.

Demon, Dark 1, Blood and Sekiro.

Get fucked.

no i heard some folks on Zig Forums before saying its not a genre just because its a clone and brought up mortal kombat clones and how none of those game aren't considered a genre

A whole genre that consists entirely of Souls and a few absolute garbage games mimicking its gameplay?

>no stamina bar
>only one weapon
>no souls currency
>no corpse run
>no stats
>jumping
>stealthing
>grappling
>swimming
>few i-frames on dodges
>no character customization
>no armor or alternate clothes
>Japanese setting
>Japanese dub
Literally the only thing that works the same as in Souls is the lock-on. Not even the basic attacks work the same.

By the way, none of the things you mentioned are specific to Souls.

>Sekiro
Fundamentally a different game

Not too mention more direct story, Skill Tree instead of stats, and prosthetics

sekiro had tools instead, which are spells with a different skin unless you're been an obtuse faggot. summoning is a crutch for bads who cant beat bosses. dodging was also dodge rolling with a different skin. you're being a dumb a dumb contrarian faggot and you know it.

>which are spells with a different skin unless you're been an obtuse faggot
An axe is magic now?

>dodging was also dodge rolling with a different skin
Dodging in Sekiro isn't nearly as viable as in Souls, with the flow of combat in Sekiro being fundamentally different

Let's make a list.

Demon's Souls
Dark Souls
Dark Souls 2
Dark Souls 3
Bloodborne
Nioh
Nioh 2
Code Vein
The Surge
The Surge 2
Lords of the Fallen
Remnant from The Ashes
Ashen

What else I'm missing? Sekiro doesn't count because it lacks most of the genre's defining traits. 2D games don't count because being 2D makes them a completely different beast, usually a Metroid-like or Symphony of the Night-like or just a straight action platformer like Strider.

Yeah, would be like comparing Tekken and Soul Calibur

>undeeatans
holy shit how did i fuck that up, looks like i don't understand how language works

>sekiro plays differently from souls
>played out
Haha yeah sure retard

And when looking at this it's only Fromsoft games and Nioh that are actually well liked, with the rest being more mixed

Bamham combat is shit and souls combat is good, so I don't mind it.

Maybe companies should make games with unique gameplay instead of just ripping off other games

it's spring loaded, it's attached to his arm and springs into his hand

The only game in this genre that I played was Demon's Souls and I got filtered by Flamelurker. Should I give any other game a try? Has to be on pc though.

It was Sekijo's weapon.

>played out
>maybe half a dozen or so good games released for it
>"The genre is spent!"
Go to hell

My personal ranking of the Soulsborne games I've played

>God tier
The Dark Souls trilogy, Nioh, Bloodborne
>Good tier
Code Vein, The Surge,
>Decent tier
Remnant from the Ashes
>Boring tier
Lords of the Fallen

I'm waiting eagerly for Nioh 2 to come to PC (I own a PS4 but I prefer to play games on PC) and I'm finishing the other games I'm playing right now before I tackle The Surge 2. My PC isn't robust enough to emulate Demon's Souls but I plan to upgrade it next year.

Honestly I'm extremely happy this genre is a thing because it mixes three of my favorite things in the world: combat involving weapons, RPG mechanics and constant fighting. So, I can't get enough of it; and best of all, most developers get it right.
