My problem with the newest Lara is she is constantly covered in literal shit and looking like she is about to cry.

Old Lara was confident in her looks, her stance, and her speech. That confidence made her seem strong.

New Lara is for people that love torture porn or want a crying puppy to take care of. She isn't strong. She isn't independent. She is a doll. Which is hilarious, because the devs would probably levy that criticism at the original Lara.

It felt like she grew out of that at the end of Rise but Shadow fucked the entire trilogy up.
Eidos handling it was a mistake.

Remember how for 3 games in a row they kept trying to spin it as Lara "BECOMING the Tomb RaiderTM" as if the last game didn't happen? They tried to a god damn trilogy in which every single game was still an origin story. This in a world where everyone is fucking sick of origin stories.

2013 had her survive the island and lose her normal life. Rise led into her dealing with her family, the mystery her father left behind in the main story and her mothers inheritance in the dlc. That should have been it, she had her mansion, found two lost cities, sought out adventure, and was comfortable fighting armies.

Shadow's supposed to be her chasing the man who killed her father but it's really just some filler story about a Lara who's still a nervous wreck saving the royal family of this city nobody gives a shit about, and at its end she's suddenly the Tomb Raider. What was the fucking point?

I would bet my life that all the little pussies saying Rise Lara haven't played a single TR game before the 2013 reboot.

I own the original PS1 trilogy and played the first one around its launch.
Rise is my favorite game in the series by far, even if it's wildly different.

I never liked the original Tomb Raider games as platformers. I wouldn't call it clunky or anything, the grid logic is easy to understand, its just slow as shit and combat feels like ass. Dicking around in the mansion was the most fun part of the game and I usually like precision platformers.

Rise isn't a platformer, period. That's why I said it's really different, it's not the same type of game at all. It strikes a nice balance between exploration game in an open hub, the cinematic bullshit of Uncharted, and actual puzzle solving in the tombs. It's a hodge podge of AAA trends, sure, but for me it found the right ratio for all of them where in the end none of them got shitty and overwhelmed the game.
