How do I get into JRPGs?

I have never been able to complete a JRPG from start to finish and there are 3 main issues that fucking annoy me

>Turn based combat
>Random Encounters
>Crappy, childlike stories

I really enjoyed my time with Chrono Trigger and almost beat the game. I have heard FFVI, FFVII, FFX, Earthbound are just as good but they manage to be so boring I exit. Mabye JRPGs just suck ass

Dd you try FFXII? It doesn't have all your issues.
Most JRPG fans are manchildren with the story comprehension of a five-year old. Most JRPG just suck but since they played it when they were 12, they keep thinking it's the best thing they will ever experience.

Try TWEWY, no dumb turn based bullshit, well written and soulful localization, great art. Just perfect really. Best JRPG desu

Why don't you try more modern jrpgs then moron, since most of them nowadays don't even have turn based combat anymore.

sage this fucking bait threads

Goddammit, FXIIfags are really getting out of hand.

Fuck you, was the game good? yes, but they decided to drop all the political subplot very quickly and became the standard "god hunt" pretty quickly, also It might not have standard turn based but it has its bastard and worse version.

You have a point on the no random encounters tho

Play Dark Souls series, a good JRPG and it doesn't have "childlike story"

tell me the story

basically everything is fucked up, no matter what you do at the end the world will still end up being fucked up, and you do the best you can with they tools you have at your disposal.

Dark Souls is not a JRPG.

JRPG is a genre of it's own that traditionally plays with a party system

Dark Souls is an ACTION RPG

>Dark Souls is not a JRPG.

>Developed IN JAPAN
>made by A JAPANESE dude
>published by A JAPANESE company
>has RPG elements
>not a JRPG.

I don't know how you articulate to breath and walk at the same time.

Action JRPG

>How do I get into JRPGs?
Why? Why force yourself to play a type of game you don't like because you happened to enjoy one of the few universally loved masterpieces from decades ago? What causes this stupidity?

Not him, and yeah technically it meets the criteria but Dark Souls isn't what people think of when they think of JRPGs.

>Dark Souls is an ACTION RPG
Action rpgs are still rpgs, and DaS is made in Japan. Only retards that want to pretend it's a wrpg because they get territorial over games are stupid enough to pretend it's not a jrpg.

Maybe your attention span is so shit you can't stand turn based. You probably had a life with no board games as a kid as well

That's not what JRPG means dickhead

It doesnt mean thats its an rpg made in japan

It refers to a traditional style of game like final fantasy

Dark souls and final fantasy do not belong to the same genre

You have to turn off your brain to play them. Not even hating here, it's just true.

>It doesnt mean thats its an rpg made in japan
That is literally what it means, and only retards pretend otherwise.

>it’s another autistic definitions episode
who cares

Why are you catering things by the way of ignorance? Just because (retarded) people who don't understand things think JRPGs are only Neptunia doesn't mean Dark Souls or Darkenguard 3 aren't one.

Also you strike me as a guy who would split hairs on something like a zombie movie where they're not traditional zombies because they're infected and you'd make a big fuss about it. Like yes technically they're not zombies (Just like technically it is a Role Playing game made in Japan.) but most people use these common titles to identify things with certain patterns and you just have to pretend you don't recognize how people are using these words in order to get upset and ignore how 99% of people use these words.

Why do you keep trying to play games you don't like? Do you have a learning disability?

you guys who will go to your grave to say that Japanese RPG doesnt mean RPG made in Japan are the funniest to me. keep at it

that doesn’t make any sense unless you’re a grindfag, in which case, you don’t have a brain to turn off

You'd probably like the Xenoblade Chronicles series. The combat is clunky and unengaging but at least it's not turn based or full action.

Not him, but you strike me as the kind of retard that doesn't know what words mean, then gets angry when people tell them that they're objectively wrong because "Well okay, that's technically what it means, but I think it should be used like this."

>Replaying FF9 for the first time since it released
>Encounter Beatrix for the first time and survive easily
>Look up if she is beatable or if it's a scripted loss
>All guides say MAKE SURE YOU'RE LEVEL 15~20
>Check my lvl
>lvl 7
The older I get, the more I realize that anyone who says you NEED to grind at JRPGs are legit retards.

>"what are some FPS games with no reloading, multiplayer or shitty discount Tom Clancy stories."
That's basically what you're asking

either kill yourself or stay the fuck away from the genre you massive faggot

Try games that don't feature random encounters, like Dragon Quest 8 for instance. Although if you do play it make sure you use a guide for the skill trees

so good fps games like doom? sounds like a valid question to me

Based

>How do I get into JRPGs?
Are you into story, lore, dialogue? Then maybe it might peak your interest if the "turn-base" which is prominent isn't a hinderence to your enjoyment.
>Turn based combat
Not all JRPGs are turn-based
>Random Encounters
Not an issue. You have the ability to flee or reduce encounter rates.
>Crappy, childlike stories
You think batman, spider-man, etc are crappy childlike stories?
>Mabye JRPGs just suck ass
Sounds like you're a nitpicking faggot. Of course you wont aim for fun you aim to nitpick. Stick to the genre that appeals to you why the fuck would you go to jrpgs?

Unless you're talking about DQ8 3DS you are right, and the game is barebone an mediocre by nowadays standards, great length but very mediocre, if something recommend him DQXI.

Never played 11, but I like the fact you can actually fucking respec your trees. I ruined Yangus in my playthrough by maxing out clubs and also made Jessica weak because of focusing on whips

>how do i get into this genre i hate
you dont
>i-i didnt care about them anyways
so you were pretending to be retarded

I don't disagree with you, but whenever people say this, I am compelling to ask them: do you consider the Yakuza games to be a JRPG?

I ask because I find that a lot of people who do not consider Dark Souls to be a JRPG, also happen to consider Yakuza to be one. Which is total bullshit imo: they're either both JRPGs, or neither of them are. So which is it?

DQ is not a game you recommend to someone who dislikes JRPGs.
