If there's atleast 5 tombstones close together it creates a graveyard mini biome.
It's mainly an issue early on cause that enables some pretty strong ghost enemies to spawn.
best try to remove the tombstones as soon as you can.

Yeah. I just died from a ghost. The first one I've ever seen. Guess I should take care of that.

Some NPCs sell special items when they're there, like Dryad will sell coruption/crimson seeds i.e.
