Halo 1-3 felt much better handled over all.
Half Life 1 and 2 always has this looming "what if" over it because of all the cut content and reworks they did, plus the 13 years and counting missing conclusion to the trilogy.
Halo had the Covenant asethetic and they stuck with it.
Half Life had the Xen aesthetic and they really fumbled it in 2, while instead giving as a half realized Combine aesthetic.

I can't speak for gameplay as I haven't played Halo enough to give my conclusions. I will say that Half Life 2 weapons feel really weak and have been outdone by several Source mods and its hard to go back to those peashooters.

I disagree, the Halo series is pretty inconsistent too. Halo 2 is blatantly rushed and cobbled together, but even if it was completed it'd be a bizarre and lurching tone shift away from the first game. Halo 3 wastes its time compensating for Halo 2's failures and never manages to escape its shadow.
Halo weapons feel like peashooters too. Enemies take forever to drop because of shields.

Recently played through the Half Life series for the first time, and Half Life is better than Halo but Halo 2/3 is better than Half Life 2. But Half Life 2 probably would've been better if they finished the story.

all of that story is from half-life 2 which i never even finished that game was so dull. halo introduced me to much cooler worlds and you get to drive tanks and space ships. i pretty much dropped half-life 2 when they tried to put me in a lazy fucking hovercraft segment copypasta.

at least enemies have shields in halo; no variety to half-life combat.

Halo CE is repetitive as fuck and almost every encounter is the same. Repeating hallways and copy pasted levels.
Every level is completely different in Half Life and you're constantly getting new enemies and encounters throughout the entire game.

There's no variety in Halo's combat either. If the enemy has shields, plasma it. When there are no more shields, headshot.
Repeat for every enemy. They all have the same 3 or 4 guns all game, so there's not a whole lot that goes into dodging shots or fighting against them.

I mean these are two very different games.
However I still prefer halo. It's one of the few franchises that gives me goosebumps while playing the story.
Half life wasn't bad, but it felt very cartoony. Halo had some cartoon character design, but the enemy threat felt very real.
Half life kinda felt like a futurama episode. Still a good game though, but overrated imo

half life isnt ABOUT gordon, though gordon (or gman, really) does help push the story forward.

the story unfolds with or without gordon though, so to say the half life story is one pushed exclusively by gordon ignores eli, alyx, isaac klein, judith mossman, and others who put in the work to actually debilitate the combine while gordon went and helped out too. or even gman, who is literally controlling gordon and now has control over alyx.
