Does anybody have anything good to say about this game? Feeling nostalgic for an old school RPG I purchased it but I'm losing interest fast.
The gameplay mechanics are overly obscure and convoluted and the writing really isn't that great just your standard run of the mill fantasy tropes.
I kinda like the pre-rendered backgrounds and setting, but I'm really 50/50 about whether I'm going to continue on this journey or not, I'm pretty much just in the beginning after you reach the town where you speak to a dead female dwarf's ghost or something, please tell me the game grows on you and the story or lore becomes worth your time lol
also I forgot to add, the combat and gameplay rules seem really convoluted but the game is very easy so far, which is really not inspiring me at all to take the time to learn its systems at all....
Genuinely one of the best games I've played in years, was looking for something to sink some time into and rouse my state of constant boredom, then I found Pillars. Played Pillars deadfire and Tyranny as well, love this style of game. Was thinking about giving fallout 2 a shot, are there any other games like this?
Colton Gomez
well, first incredibly obvious solid piece of evidence they were always complete shit
Zachary Barnes
Played it a few years ago. Honestly one of the most boring RPGs I have ever played. None of the companions were interesting or memorable. The world building is okay, it tries to do something different but the execution is mediocre.
Michael Butler
>are there any other games like this? the top down old school Dungeons and Dragons RPG has made a bit of a comeback, there's tons of games like this Divinity 1&2 Torment Baldurs Gate Planescape Torment those are a few that come to mind I know there's a few more recent ones I'm forgetting though
Asher Wright
thanks, I was afraid of this, did you ever get around to finishing it?
Dylan Walker
I agree. I managed to get 11h before giving up. Like you I enjoyed exploring the areas for the graphics but the story/dialogue was so boring and just too much exposition.
For some reason I decided to try tyranny. Got 9h before giving up, same reasons.
For a while I thought it was just me who had tired of reading, as I see the first fallouts short on-the-point story/dialogue as what I think I want from an RPG.
Then came disco elysium which I very much liked, and so I realised that it´s just when there is bad writing, and a lot of it, that I can´t enjoy a game.
Austin Peterson
Fallout 1 and 2 are very good. Planescape Torment has shit combat but the dialogues are very good. Disco Elysium has no combat but the dialogues are very good. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 are considered as examples for the genre, if you can live with the D&D 2.5 rules (they are horrible). Pathfinder Kingmaker is very focused on combat but has good class customization (careful: you can build the most shitty PC if you don't know what you're doing). Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 are also considered very good but I found the fights in the second one much too long. If you didn't die of old age after all that, there are a few more like Icewind Dale, Wasteland, Torment Numeria or Age of Decadence.
Luis Jackson
I also forgot Zig Forums's little darling: Underrail.
Dominic Bailey
>Icewind Dale Found it boring with very long and linear dungeons.
Gabriel Long
There are several difficulties, you know?
Jackson Sanchez
Rada rada rada. They fucking killed Deadfire with that shit. Threw out all the development from the first game and soft rebooted it too. Idiots. They lost all credibility for their IP in just two games.
Jeremiah Rodriguez
Yeah, I also didn't like it, and that's why it's relatively on the bottom, but some people here and elsewhere do.
Jordan Hall
It's boring.
The think the most interesting thing about my playthrough of it was being a Cipher. Being a Godlike literally didn't matter (that's what you get for adding shit last minute for Kickstarter backers), the story took forever to go anywhere, the setting was generic and so where the characters.
Tyranny is better, full stop. It's a travesty it flopped and got no attention while POE succeeded.
Gotcha, definitely seen a comeback as well which I'm really happy about. I've played divinity, haven't touched the planescape/baldurs gate series yet. Worth a shot?
Wyatt Jones
I liked Thaos and Iovara alongside the Waidwen storyline. They should've made the game during the Saint's War instead. Play as a new initiate who meets Woden and a Young less crazy Durance. Then the sequel is the soulless baby plague aftermath of Waidwen being blown up.
Jason Fisher
Fucking loved Disco Elysium, normally not into that type of game at all but it just clicked well, I thought the protagonist was bretty cool. I've heard tides of numanera is similar, but the combat sucks and the game gets boring. Still very interested, would you say it's worth playing if I enjoy these other games?
Ryan Anderson
I did finish it, I tend to finish pretty much every game I start though. If you've played through the first couple areas and aren't enjoying it I say drop it. It doesn't get better.
Jordan Thomas
Honestly, POE 2 was sort of along that vein. Would highly recommend, personally enjoyed it more then the first but they're still almost even.
Samuel Adams
You now if eel like i of bisfon only just listenidnd to their fans nstad of ignoring hem and talking to that fand ddsiconr disxcrod discord they woudknt oprofbly gotten befoire nfeedb ack tinad made a berter game because a ot if th uissuye s ubutuakky abd at launch was balance of the ahrder difficuktyied but theyd int care due to most eoipld who they wanted to attrrt played on easy and normnal,
Joseph Young
Personally I'm not a fan of the Baldur's Gate games, mostly because of the 2.5 rules (and also because I don't really like the Forgotten Realms). Strangely, I had no problems with Neverwinter nights 2, especially Mask of the Betrayer which is pretty good. In any cases, I think Planescape Torment is worth it.
Nathan Reed
Numanera is bearable, but there are much better games that you could play before it.
Dominic Davis
I thought it was worse in every regard aside from mechanics.
Isaac Baker
The second game is much better, probably one of the best crpgs out there at the moment
William Flores
Tyranny's end game was a travesty, all that build up for nothing at all
Kevin Bell
Sadly it has so many flaws that make the game not so enjoyable. Still ok, but not worth the hype (and still better than numenera)
Ian Cox
You might also consider playing Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Hong Kong. Both are excellent and have a different battle system than the Baldur's Gate bloodline which is welcome. Its the first CRPG I have played where your skills do more than just token benefits during quests.
Austin Morgan
>baldurs gate series A lot of fan mods around the series to switch things up.
Camden Reyes
Why can't we get a game that plays like an ARPG (mechanically) but is otherwise designed like a CPRG (ie well written with branchign questlines and not filled without thousands of trashmobs)? Why can no one ever bring together the hipster artistic types who make CRPGs and the autistic number crunchers who make ARPGs together?
