Yeah its almost like his entire facial and bone structure completely changed, he got a jawline and nose surgery, and became a different character all together.

It explains the events in Niflheim even if it is all action. Your average FF fan isn't going to expect storybuilding and huge connection to the game via Nyx or Kingsglaive Guard have any impact to Noctis and the gang. This is where I am most likely on my own, but FF movies have always been a visual appeal rather than some deep emotional capture. I liked the battle sequences either way and I mentioned before it's only good if you compare it to AC and SW. A movie on it's own or to someone who is not into FF would probably think it's garbage.
