Zero 1 is easily the worst of the Zero series, just give the first mission or so of Zero 2 a shot and see how it goes

I was a massive fan of Megaman X4 so I thought I'd give them a try. Big mistake. They're not as bad as X5-X8, but they're still inferior to the first playable version of Zero. Something that Capcom for some bizarre reason has never been able to accurately replicate.

Depends what you didn't like about the zero games.
I didn't like the stage-ranking because that meant I restarted over and over to get perfect ranks instead of playing through naturally. That and using-elves = bad rank
That didn't really stop all that much with the future games
The ZX games are more fun as far as I'm concerned because the boss fight is the only thing you're ranked on. You can leisurely explore and fight in the stage. It was a much more zen playthrough than the Zero games for me.

In the OP stage of Z2 the game uses a damaged ver of the Z1 start menu and portrait to reflect the months of continuous battle Zero did on his own with no rest before switching to a new start menu design after that mission ends.
