i originally liked Sonic because the story was simple and told mostly through the environments and actions depicted on screen. And what ever lore you could decipher from that is what originally made it fun to discuss with others. The moment they went 3D and subsequently added voice acting and DeviantArt tier designs characters and plot is when it went to shit

I always liked the fantastic and surreal environments found throughout the old games.

Based and factpilled. Classic was just fine as it was. Modern Sonic was just a desperate attempt to try and stay relevant that only created many problems for the series in the long run, both in the series itself and outside of it via the awful fanbase. (Though SatAM and the comics already did a number on it.) This isn't even up for debate. Just look at the series objectively and it's blatantly obvious.

Hell I'll even admit I enjoy some aspects of Modern Sonic, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't have nostalgia for SA1 or 2. But I can't turn a blind eye to what's staring me right in the face: Modern Sonic was a mistake. The fact that Mania exploded in terms of popularity and critical praise from everyone from ""professional"" reviewers to regular people alike should speak for itself. Only the extremely deluded or autistic will have any real issues with what I just said. To normal functioning people, I'm just reiterating what they already know, and have known for over two decades now.

"erafagging" is just classicucks seething at sonic fans and then claiming it's the fans' fault.

There was a guy on twitter that pointed out that Sonic was always edgy and it was only genesis limitations that kept the series from having cutscenes until 3 or lore. We shouldn't even be fighting.

I like Sonic because I can assert my dominance about what era is better.

and there it is.

As good as simplicity works and I do appreciate the classic game’s plots, I think the change that Adventure and SA2 brought for character and world building through its stories were good, other games went full retard with this concept (Shadow, 06, Unleashed) and most associate this DeviantArt fan fiction stuff with those first two games. Not that they were perfect but they did their job well and told an alright story, same goes for Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush. Sonic heroes really did a number by dumbing down the plot and character development from Sonic Adventure 2 and the only enjoyment I can get from it’s story is how the team members of Chaotix and Dark interact. Everything else isn’t very meaningful or memorable to me.
I wouldn’t even have too big of an issue with the latest games having really boring plots like Heroes if, like that game, had a twinge of personality and every character wasn’t so soulless and one note, especially Eggman.

There what is? Spit it out.

What seething? Classicfags are the most laid back bunch of Sonic fans you'll ever talk to. Besides, Classicfags have nothing to seethe about. They have actual good games to play, and Mania let them relive the glory days for a while. Not to mention SRB2 which is kino and has infinite content because of modding. What do Modernfags have again? An extremely mediocre game from three years ago, a movie that wasn't terrible, a subpar kart racer, and some mobile games? Yeah I don't know, seems like only one of those groups are going to be seething about something.

But really, Adventurefags are easily the most obnoxious and they seethe the most. Don't take my word for it, just look at any Sonic thread on any given day and you'll see it for yourself. Oh, not (You), I mean, the person lurking the thread. (You)'re obviously too delusional for rational conversation. This is for their benefit.

>Sonic was always edgy
This is pure revisionist bullshit spouted by Adventurefags to try and justify their cringey Shounen plots.
>but Tails FUCKING DIED in the Game Gear version of Sonic 2
A) we don't know that for certain and B) that's a far cry from an underage girl with space AIDS getting shot death.

Literally what else is there to use for stretching the definition of "edgy" with regards to Classic Sonic games? You'd have to pull off some Olympian tier mental gymnastics to sell this nonsense. The fact that you bought into it really says a lot about the state of this fanbase.

Don't act like erafagging isn't done by both sides idiot

The second post you quoted is literally the only one describing what they like about Sonic without "erafagging". Don't get ahead of yourself.

I like the Nature vs Technology aspect to it. Playing as a hedgehog smashing robots, travelling from a lush zone through to a techno nightmare factory to smash a fat guys shit in. Sonic was the perfect mix of 90s radicool and 90s ecowarrior bulslhit that the games and cartoons sort of merged together. Top it all off with the weird as shit japanese influences like the amazing music of Cosmic Eternity and shit and you have this weird 90s encapsulated vibe that just made the early games magic. The later stuff is good, but it's clearly Japan leaning into the 'Sonic is for Americans' and that's a whole other fantastic thing, but there was a weird magic about stuff like Sonic 1/CD's stages or the OVA's world, or the Dreams Come True music. It's just such a chill late night vibe. Probably all nostalgia due to being a kid that rented the games and only got to play them on weekends which lead to a weird association of free time being night with bright electronic lights and shit, which made the whole 'nature vs tech' weird when we were animals playing with electronics ourselves.

Damn...based.

Which sonic game is the most comfy?

But he's complimenting the classic era and that's a big no-no.

Welcome to Zig Forums

That's been like that since the jump to adventure. Nobody just "likes sonic" anymore except for genuine "donut steel on DA" tier autists.

Sonic CD w/ Japan soundtrack. Jumping into any good future stage should give you those vibes.
Sonic Adventure also has that comfy late 90s feel to it and Chao Garden is maximum comfy.

The problem is that Sonic as a franchise is so segmented that you may like Sonic for completley different reasons to why i like Sonic

dead game and franchise, what else would you expect?

Nothing of value is lost in these endlessly spammed, shitty Sonic threads. They're just generals for a /mlp/ tier fanbase.

Eh, that's not true. There's Some interesting information that comes out of these threads from time to time.

Is there a version of this that isn't just a bunch of stupid shit on the bottom? Of course it would be silly shit since it's a series for kids, but I always wanted to see someone actually use this template for an interseting topic

Sonic CD. I like how the "sky" in Collision Chaos is just Earth. I like nice touches like that.

I'd genuinely like to know what happens in a thread where people do nothing but screech about which version of a sega mascot is best because they grew up with it.

I think classic and modern eras can co-exist, on the following conditions
>classic isn't shoehorned into modern games
>modern is run by competent devs who can deliver something on the level of Mania
