Consoles have not outperformed PCs since the days of the fucking Commodore 64. Ever since then consoles have been made with the cheapest parts that could be mass produced at the time of design. PC components are released with much more regularity. It's literally impossible for a console to have any breakthrough technologically when they are designed from the ground up to be affordable all-in-one devices. That means it takes a long time before they hit shelves. Long enough that PC parts overtake them no matter what innovations they think they've made. Console manufacturers are not creating new technology.

Imagine saying the PC was dead in 2008, after Crysis raised the bar so high that the PS3 and 360 literally never caught up no matter how many console optimizations devs came up with, after the Core 2 Quad set the four-core stage that would last for literally the next decade, and after the Geforce 8800GT completely changed the landscape with the best price/performance ever witnessed in a GPU (for its time, of course)
