Why was No Man's Sky hated so much at launch? even though it was overhyped and overcharged i think it was quality game with fantastic aesthetic and one of the best soundtracks in any videogame i have ever played. It reminds me a lot of what made minecraft great and with these updates it keeps getting better.

It was trash at launch, it's trash now
Its still trash but people like it because internet man told them its good now.
it was a $10 for $60 at launch. Now its a $25 (debatable) game for whatever you can get it for depending on sales. I pirated it at release then I bought it recently and replayed a bit but its still the same shit, If it released at the state its in today it would have won GOTY (despite not really being GOTY material)

Literally lies.
Popularity was Sony bux and advertising.
Sean murray went onto talk shows which doesn't happen with indie devs, he lied out of his teeth saying the game had multiplayer and other stuff.
The trailer was not possible with proceeduraly generated ingame worlds, a literal ingame bullshot.
It had bugs out the ass, less features than were lied about, Sean kept trying to pile on the hype with his "OH MY GOD SO MANY PEOPLE PLAYING WHAT IS GOING ON?!"
I played it for the first time recently and it was okay, but I didn't really feel like an explorer desu. Planets were all kinda the same, there aren't really any interesting features on planets, like cities, different gravity, gas planets..
And it turns out as a boomer I can't be fucked to grind anymore. Maybe if there was a way to automate resource grinding it could be fun, but I couldn't be fucked to grind mats just so I can build a base I don't even need. The universe also feels empty.
I also recently started X4 for the first time and it feels much more alive and it's a lot of fun to expand your fleet and grow into a big player. Maybe NMS should kinda copy a bit of X4 in that regard. I felt much more amazed when I saw a massive fleet attacking a station in X4 with multiple capital ships and fighters battling it out, my little scout ship scurrying around to pick up loot I could sell, compared to landing on another random planet with nothing outstanding on it in NMS..
>Its still trash but people like it because internet man told them its good now.
Yet here you are, arguing with Internet Man on Zig Forums
It’s because retards felt slighted by the “lies,” since the reductionist assumption was that it’s “Minecraft, but in space!” There were too many assumptions led by these retards who crafted an image of the game, and with a rampant imagination and literally no video footage to go on, their expectations weren’t met.
Compared to today, yeah, a lot of shit was added and it’s actually really good. NMS is a unique case of a game we don’t deserve.
>There were too many assumptions led by these retards who crafted an image of the game
The developer promised a lot of features and was ambiguous about multiplayer and it was a buggy shitfest at launch. On top of that the procedural generation of the game world was fucking garbage. It was an unoptimized piece of shit with literally nothing to do.

No. He lied, straight up.
It really isn't, it's literally the same game except it has more meaningless shit in it, none of the things serve any real purpose and exist there just for the sake of existing, Like the recent mech for example, does it bring anything new to the table? No, it's as useless as the rest of the ground vehicles and doesn't serve any purpose, there's no dungeons or military bases to assault with it, there is literally nothing besides the same old stupid fucking drones that are easy enough to destroy just with your gun.
With each update the game gets further and further away from an exploration game and instead becomes minecraft in space, except the base building UI is so fucking horrible it takes 10 clicks to get anywhere. The game is a piece of shit and I check it out every update in the hopes they made it about exploring but no, every time there's more meaningless shit to build and construct and it doesn't server any real purpose.
First couple of hours were great but then you realize that's all there is
>The developer promised a lot of features
Most were pointless stuff like "you can land on asteroids" that wouldn't have made anyone like the game more
>and was ambiguous about multiplayer
on the contrary, he outright lied about that but also specifically said that you're a retard if you buy the game expecting it to be a multiplayer experience because it was never meant to be.
He had to lie, to save millions.
Someone needs to combine this with Satisfactory. Best game of all times.
It was trash, plain and simple, it may have improved over time, but it was then a content starved, buggy mess
>go to planet
>point laser gun at rocks
>go to another planet
>repeat ad nauseam
no amount of updates will fix the boring gameplay
It looks like a generic indie game made in unity but with ugly spore aliens
>"they lied, but it was okay!"
>"they lied, but you're stupid for actually falling for it!"
based retard
Lest we forget after four years

> i think it was quality game with fantastic aesthetic and one of the best soundtracks in any videogame i have ever played.
then you have only played REALLY bad games until that point, because it was and had none of those.
>>"they lied, but it was okay!"
It wasn't okay, but the outrage it caused was retarded because those "lies" weren't the reason people were disappointed with their purchase
>"they lied, but you're stupid for actually falling for it!"
There was nothing to fall for because he explicitely said to not buy the game if you expect a multiplayer experience. he only lied about the fact that you would be able to see other players.
maybe epic will give it away for free one day and i will finally play it
>ebin launcher
Gameplay loop is boring, progression feels like shit. Subnautica is more fun with a small part of one ocean planet than NMS is with a trillion planets.
>Why was No Man's Sky hated so much at launch?
It was a buggy game that ran and looked like shit and didn't have half of the features they said it would at launch. It's much better now but it deserved the reception it got.
What's up with every no man's sky thread feeling like nothing more but shill threads. They all talk like these updates improves the games but all they've been doing is giving us useless updates that doesn't fix the boring core gameplay and exploration
Hello R*ddit
snoy overhyped the shit out of it and didn't keep murray in check when he started bullshitting his way through (i feel it was more him being overly optimistical than malicious).
So when you pay premium tripleA price and boot the game what did people find? A barebone minecraft game with nothing to do where even the most basic gameplay was designed around being as obnoxious as possible.
The only reason i don't scorn this game is because they acually owed up to the fail and actually worke on the game post launch. If it was a scam they wouldn't have done it, so it's clear there's at last some passion behind.
But even with all the new stuff the game is still mediocre, the menus are still so shitty they break the geneva convention.
>camera pan
>shields initialized
>continue camera pan
>hud initialized
>continue camera pan
>jetpack initialized
>camera pan end
>die from exposure as your player character was simulated that entire time, and most planets you have a minute at best to survive on with starting equipment
back to your r/fuckepic containment board pls
Its still grindy trash to this day
That sounds like terraria my man, except its just green landscape everywhere.
