because battle models aren't scaled properly to the overworld and chibi works better.
Compare how ugly 8 is and how good 9 looks at all times

the limitations of the PS1

The chibi look would work well in an old Mickey Mouse game with a setting like a rainbow candy land. But FF7, despite having quirkier characters too, is mostly a dramatic story in a gritty industrial setting. The settings emphasize steel, machinery, cold hardness and clashes with the chibiness of the models. The character's aesthetic style is not appropriate for the setting and the story.

is that all of the chibi models from OG? I wanna see how many of the designs made it into remake.

Yet FFVIII had better models, depsite being on the same hardware.

no, it's an unfinished chibi improvement mod.

it's how every final fantasy prior looked, your retroactive hot take means nothing.

The chibi concept art looks cool, reminds me of Skies Of Arcadia.

Looks like a rejected Dragon ball character

looks like Brave Fencer Musashi

>how every ff prior looked
Except they didn't, and even if they did two wrongs don't make a right. The 2D sprites mixed way better than the jarring chibi 3D models against those mechanical looking backgrounds. You really didn't refute my point about FF7 being mostly about heavy steel, machines and grittiness, how the chibiness clashes with that. Even though that game has some zanier characters, more than 95% of the game is serious animu drama shit and the aesthetic doesn't match.

The SOUL Department.

it's a children's game who cares retard

The lead designers.
It was a mix of technical limitations of the time, the game originally being made for the N64, and the fact that you can have more "detailed", expressive and visible characters on the world maps when viewed from the distance, even at 240p on blurry CRTs.

those hd models look like shit but you are still retarded, ff7 had popeye models exactly because they wanted them to be chibi like the SNES era in a dystopian cyberpunk world, it was 200% intended

Do you remember how many games were crushed by 3D? The graveyard of failures?
Name some of them.

it was a stylistic choice, they are drawn that way in the concept art Resident Evil came out 96 and had normal proportioned characters.

>We got this cool guy replaced with some generic good boy shonen protagonist.
Why is every single Compilation entry made to undermine and destroy the original game? There is literally nothing outside the original game worth experiencing.

Dissidia alt when

It's a scientific fact that if you don't like Zack you have shit taste. Sorry m8 it's science.

Wanna know how I know you say chad unironically?

Any advice for someone playing it for the first time? I heard there was a lot of missable shit. I haven't played a lot of JRPGs. Set the battle speed to fast and switched to wait and I'm currently at the Wall Market

That's not soul, it's not canon

Just play blind and worry about other stuff for replays.

Crisis Core is good and Zack is great in it.

I doubt I will replay in the next decade, my backlog is massive, especially in that generation

Have u not noticed how graphics seem to improve over the course of a single console generation?

Slot machine shit ruins the entire game. Might be the worst idea Square has ever had. Imagine working on Crisis Core and making everything great and then some idiot decides to put that shit in.
