Remember when Zig Forums said G2A is completely fine no stolen keys are sold there?
Well well well...
AHEM
I don't get OPs pic
explain in laymens turms
>make public bluff
>get called out
>$40,000 price tag for hubris
Somebody lost their job. But it was just some loser at G2A so who gives a fuck?
not OP but this is what I remember:
g2a said they dont sell stolen kills or something to that effect, and that theyd reimburse anyone who could prove they did. well apparently the factories devs came up with the proof, and it looks like they finally paid up after trying to back out of the offer
remember that g2a offered to pay 10 times the loss. this amounted to a grand total 198 shady keys.
It's old news, not OP, but G2A said they'd pay any dev tenfold for any proven stolen keys they could provide.
Looks like they stayed true to their word instead of being big babies about it.
$4K in stolen keys for a multi-million selling game is a bit weak for that giant hubbub the blue checkmarks were throwing over it, though.
why do people blame the marketplace selling instead of the sellers themselves and the shitty practices of devs and publishers that allow keys to be bought and sold outside of the ecosystem that protects against chargebacks?
G2A was accused of selling illegally obtained keys for games, where people buy codes for the game, then refund it from their banks, but resell the code.
Publishers and devs got pissed, G2A said "we're legitimate," it was a hot issue for a few weeks.
G2A threw out an ultimatum and said "If you can prove our keys are illegitimate, we will refund you in full. We aren't setting out to steal."
Everyone got real quiet real fast after that, except the Factorio dev, who took them up on the offer. He apparently has been reimbursed for upwards of 40k dollars in illegitimate sales.
$40k? That's it?
I wonder if the $40,000 reimbursement even covers their legal fees to get the $40,000.
What's wrong with supporting our russian brothers?
I don't think lawyers got involved.
I buy IPL games on release, there's my support.
no lawyers, g2a did it all internally because no external auditing firm would allow the results to be made public.
It’s a bad proposition to begin with. Proving a key is stolen is almost impossible. G2A knew no one could prove it so they set out the challenge for easy PR points. Suckets now think these slav scammers are legitimate
>where people buy codes for the game, then refund it from their banks, but resell the code.
This and tons of people used stolen credit cards on G2A.
>Proving a key is stolen is almost impossible.
they keys are traced via chargebacks. the facotirio devs literally went to g2a with a list of bad keys.
You imply all stolen keys happen via chargebacks
>G2A said the findings "confirmed what we were sure about—that out of over 10 million transactions annually, we only have 198 [illegally obtained] keys sold through our site."
reddit ignored that part because doesnt fit their g2a bad agenda
>where people buy codes for the game, then refund it from their banks, but resell the code
how is this any different from doing exactly the same thing in the steam store?
>Make a game
>Actually don't, start selling it before you finish
>Barely worth the asking price, be autistic about never putting it on sale
>Up the price one day by $10 just because people keep asking why you never put it on sale
>wtf why are people buying my game from someone who will sell it cheaper??
Feels good knowing there's countless pirated copies he'll never get a dime from.
This is a classic case of autism-fueled hubris, yeah.
>the ecosystem that protects against chargebacks
this is the funny way that steamies pronounce "monopoly"
epic just rolled out a commerce API for this, which is only available for use by authorized partners. now games can be sold on other sites or given away in promotions without the possibility of currency manipulators, asset flippers, or botters hoarding them.
If anything, this only makes G2A look legitimate. If they're willing to pay devs any losses suffered from sales of illegal keys, you bet your ass G2A is not interested in selling those said keys and will do anything in their power to prevent their sales.
Factorio devs made a shitload of money from the game. Keep crying about the no sales rule.
G2A gives a bad name to stores that sell legit keys.
based slav autism
Why are people assuming G2A is run by Russians? It's run by Honk Kongers.
Why would I give a shit? It's cheap games
it's reddit kids regurgitanting what their scared jews indie devs programmed them to say.
Fun fact, same shit is happening all around the world right now with covid-19.
I purchase from another key site, they must be honest, because they're advertised in mainstream videogame websites.
It wasn't just some loser. It was the HEAD Loser, and he owns the place
