Yakuza is known for having goofy as fuck side missions and activities while also having stories that take themselves relatively seriously. It's charming but also works against itself at points, like I wanted to fuck off and have fun messing around but the sense of urgency for many of the story missions made me feel like I couldn't just ignore what was going on.

It is goofy, in the sense that for all the shit the characters go through, everything can be settled simply with a gun. Yeah subjective opinions, who cares what you enjoy blah blah etc, but I can't for the life of me empathise with people who actually feel for the story. Everything about it is awful - the writing, pacing, music, how contrived each scene is. It could be enjoyable had it been in pure "so bad it's good" territory, but they actually intend for the story to be taken seriously. For the most part it just serves as a distraction to the side content.
Who cares though, the game is fun as fuck. Everything else is just a bonus
