So I did not know there were people who did not care much for this when it came out.
This game was my intro into the series and I cannot tell you the amount of times I’ve beaten it on the OG Xbox, well over 100. I also have more of an attachment to raiden than snake simply because of this game.
>So I did not know there were people who did not care much for this when it came out. But it sold over 7 million?
James Perry
I know, but I did not know that there was a vocal minority who was upset with having to play with raiden
Cameron Martin
If you can try to play any other version. The Xbox one ran like ass.
People were pissed back in the day because you didn't play as Snake.
Zachary Parker
People who thought TPP was about playing as Big Boss before the game came out should have played MGS2 whose meta messages outright tell us that the series is centered around a formula where the protagonist is the pawn.
Big Boss became evil because he started to actively exist, which helped engage the transition of him from "the pawn" to "the puppeteer creating pawns and personal armies." So to have a game where Big Boss truly becomes evil would require for him to be out of player control, because as the formula states, you can only play as the marionette in MGS, not the marionettist. >who thought of this bullshit Kojima.
Aiden Morales
>actively exist The fuck does that mean
Jacob Sullivan
let's use a vidya analogy
Passively existing is like asking people on that net to watch the cool i.e. gay, cringe Let's Plays you made, but when no one cares you just keep continuing to find people that hopefully will. And then once you do find people that care, they'll tell others about it and then you gain enough traction then there will be loads of people that will care about them. In the end, your fans are people with dignity and their own rights, and you have a soul.
Actively existing is like spamming your Let's Plays nonstop especially at times when people want to discuss other things, telling others to like them because "you'll feel bad if you don't" or any other bullshit reason that sheeple constantly fall for, recruiting a personal army to attack and invade others' personal bubbles like warmongers (plus infesting them like parasites into praising your content for more bullshit reasons), and playing 4D chess; i.e. doing shit like using some random dumbfuck guy as a pawn in a plan with a "preconceived notion" that he'll gladly attempt to achieve, not knowing what the true purpose of the plan... that only YOU know... is (to make other Let's Players look bad so that everyone will watch your Let's Plays instead.) In the end, you become a sociopath, your "fans" are mindless bootlickers, and you have no soul.
Aaron Davis
>already played Splinter Cell when got MGS2 >wordswordswords for hours >stealth mechanics are a joke >animu enemies
James Ortiz
MGS is the Sonic of stealth games. Especially when like sonic, it was never good
not reading that shit TL;DR
Liam Jenkins
passively existing means fulfilling your goal by not being a spamming, bullshitting, manipulative dick actively existing means fulfilling your goal by being a spamming, bullshitting, manipulative dick
Luke Bailey
CONTAINMENT THREAD YOU GUYS HAVE ONE FUCK OFF
Grayson Cooper
Everybody cared for it. It was huge. What people didn't care for was Raiden. Literally no one even knew that he was in the game until playing it, let alone taking over for Snake. Kojima kept him entirely hidden and everyone expected another Snake adventure. The balls on the man.
Brayden Scott
>vocal minority >minority Not sure about that one chief. Read here Kojima seriously misled people about the game hard.
Kevin Campbell
I think it's funny that MGS2 is actually 30 fps on xbox but 60 on PS2.
Isaac Martinez
I grew up on MGS and MGS2 wasn't my first of the series but it was the first MGS game I beat. I remember playing MGS1 a ton and even just the demo countless times when I was like 5 and just loved MGS since. I would say MGS2 has the best nostalgia though. Been replaying it on PS now.
Samuel Taylor
I remember thinking this was cool as fuck as a kid cause then you're like oh man I'm gonna be in for a lot of surprises. Love the ending. Isn't MGS2 held in high regard? Only zoomers must not like it
Evan Diaz
>Metal Gear >Implying anyone cares about this series L O L O L
Lucas Rivera
It was held in high regard at the time but most people didn't like Raiden, or were just upset at the switcheroo. Everybody loved Snake at the time, he was one of the coolest videogame characters already, so that just made it worse. The ending with Colonel was very well received though.
Also, a lot of people didn't really like The Plant Chapter/Big Shell, mostly because they felt it was too repetitive and samey. That was more mixed, but everyone loved The Tanker.
Juan Harris
Absolute, fucking awful game.
Hideo Kojima should be banned from all video games.
David Mitchell
Also should add. Especially at the time in America Raiden didn't go over well due to seeming too feminine. Mostly his look, but he kind of had a whiny voice(Kojima didn't like his American voice, complained and attributed his bad reception primarily to that, on the flip side he loves his Japanese voice and felt it fit Raiden perfectly) and could have a whiny attitude. There was even that joke where Raiden has his junk grabbed and says "You're a man?!" This is in contrast to Snake, who was seen as a manly action star type character.
Adrian Martin
Yep! I remember! I didn’t have a ps2 because I thought the Xbox was gonna be better and I waited so long for this game because I was a huge mgs fan. Then something happened with my Xbox and sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. I was so mad! So I ended up selling it or giving it away and a few months later I got the ps2 and could finally play the game like it was intended to.
Nicholas Cox
>kept him entirely hidden You see him for two seconds in the opening FMV and when I saw him there I was like "cool he has another sidekick? I wanna play as him" and I ended up playing as him and it was great
Zachary Edwards
Die. No one liked him, nor they wanted to play as him, but you
Charles Bell
I think he went over a lot better in Japan, but probably a big part in due to Kojima mentioning how he got a great voice actor and his voice was masculine and deep.
Easton Turner
Get better shitposting material you two!
Luis Gray
That's such bullshit. I didn't know anyone who cared about playing as Raiden simply becuase the gameplay is the fucking same, it's literally a model swap. Playing as a different character implies different moves/abilities/tactics. If you want complain about MGS2 then bitch about the lackluster bosses or environment variety with stage gimmicks.
Raiden being the protagonist is so petty and detracts from the actual flaws of the game.
um pal, i think snake did a rugged roll and raiden did a pansy faggoty flip
Chase Mitchell
>So I did not know there were people who did not care much for this when it came out. tf are you talking about? Maybe a small number of people but it was still a massive success
Ayden Turner
Finally someone who understands the ending of MGS2. Although you do play as Big Boss in Ground Zeroes
Ethan Ward
The very first time I played an MGS game was with this version back in the day. I didn't know what the fuck was going on, but damn did I like it.
And yes, it does run like shit.
Zachary Davis
Doesn't it run at 60 FPS during gameplay?
Jonathan Peterson
The people mad about not playing as Solid Snake are overblown. The people mad that MGS3 originally had a fixed camera is real. If you play it make sure you get the subsistence version or hd version. 3DS is a neat novelty but framerate is garbage.
Nathaniel Foster
>The people mad about not playing as Solid Snake are overblown. Quite literal revisionism. Even Kojima acknowledges it.
>The people mad that MGS3 originally had a fixed camera is real. Now this is weird because I don't ever remember any complaints about it but it could be that I might not have paid too much attention to its release and played it a while after it came out. I loved it, but then when I replayed it years ago I despised the camera and came to despise the game in general because of it.
Daniel Green
Yes, until you start firing a weapon or some smoke effects gets on your screen. The tanker chapter runs pretty slow when you're outside.
Jose Robinson
I never had any problem on XB1 and I have the base model details?
